Front end noise

I have a 98 elantra wagon and have been noticing a noise in the front. When at highway speeds and you correct the path you are driving there is a growling noise coming from the front end. It could be the tires / they are noisy anyway but I was wondering if it could be a wheel bearing. How do I know, how do I check it , and is it hard to change myself. The car has 122000kms / 75000miles on it.

Did you ever find out the problem? I have a '97 elantra sedan that is making the same sound.

here is a quick way to tell if its the tires or bearings
a general rule now i say general because theres always one or two that do not follow it but if the noise is all the time its the tires and if the noise comes and goes as you steer to the left or right its the bearings . Either way have a pro take a look at it
