So I'm watching Le Mans

And wondering if there are any kits/transkits of the little non-prototype Porsches (911's?). You know the ones, with the two extra lamps on the hood, the ones that keep getting in the way while Steve laps them, trying to escape those sinister Ferrari gangsters? I think there's something so pleasantly unassuming about these cars among the burly prototypes that push them around.

Fujimi has made late sixties 911S kits in their Enthusiast series. I plan to make a model of Steve's black 911 that he drives at the beginning of the movie using one of these kits.
BTW - dont get a 911R kit if you want a LeMans car.

film ? there's a le mans movie ? i guess you'll have to use putty and patience and maybe some parts from the spares box for this one. i'm planning a model of the "aftermath" of the porshe 911 gt1 prototype that lifted and flew through the air just like webber did (twice in two days) but i only have a video of it. anyone got any pictures ?

I have been searching for resin transkits to represent the porshe 911 flying lyzard. I am willing to do putting but first I got to find some decals.

Oh man... yes there's a film. Steve McQueen made it in 1970 by putting a couple of camera cars in the race, and then filming extra stuff later on. It pretty much bankrupted Solar Films, and was panned when it came out. I still enjoy it, but then I think Steve was probably the king of cool. If you get the chance, give it a watch... it's a guy, being cool and racing cars. Simple as that.

No talking for the first, what? ... 10 minutes?. I love the beginning. ItŽs just racing. No fancy music, just the sound of pure racing. You gotta to have it. YouŽll find the DVD easily on ebay or amazon.

I don't think the script of Le Mans would fill more than a couple of pages, but it doesn't need to, the movie is about racing nothing else....
Oh, and I have it on DVD, got it on Ebay :)

Grand Prix is pretty good too....

Grand Prix is cluttered with things like story. And acting. Psh. But it is good.
Thanks p9o1r1sche, I'll be keeping an eye out on Ebay now. Hopefully I can find one - I think it would be a good addition to the LeMans contest, a little bitty between all the big super prototypes. It'd been a while since I'd seen it, so when the Porsche in your sig showed up, I said, "Hey! It's that Porsche! In that guys sig! Cool!"

Most of the cars in Grand Prix are fakes anyway, older F2 and FJunior cars made up to look like F1 cars. Le Mans is the real thing...

I need to get Le Mans on DVD very badly. Unfortunately Region 4, PAL versions are not easy to find :(
I did some looking around and couldn't find decals for any of the 911S cars from 1970 or thereabouts. A shame as the Fujimi kit could quite easly be modded to fit the part.
Actually I remember reading (might have been on the now sadly defunct 917.com site) that the Porsche that Steve crashed in the movie wasn't a real 917, rather a rebodied Lola.

Granted I haven't done a lot of research, but they didn't seem to have complex liveries. Just a roundel with numbers and a few sponsor decals. It seemed to me, that if I picked a simpler of the simple ones, I could easily cannibalize other decal sets or even make my own?

Are you sure your DVD player won't support both PAL and NTSC?
My Dad's TV is Region 4,PAL but his DVD player supports all formats so he can get DVD's from me to watch.
May be worth your looking in to?

I can play NTSC and all regions on the machinery I have now, but if possible I'd like to have a copy that will run on all Australian gear no problem. I've had a PAL R4 version of Le Mans on order for about a month now and still no sign of it being shipped. Eventually I will have to give in and buy a US version I suppose. Should've taped it when I first saw it on TV several years ago :banghead:

there are a few fake cars in Le Mans as well. The Porche (i belive thats what McQueen is driving) is fake in some scenes (i belive there is a crash scene where you can obviously see the real car underneath is not the Porche. )

You're right RR. It was a radio controlled Lola T70 clad in 917 body, and the information was on 917 archive site.

You can tell its not a Porsche as the exhaust pipes are routed on top of the engine.

I'm waiting for one off of HLJ, hooray! But I'm having a hell of a time finding reference. What am I thinking?

Good Idea that always worked for me ist taking screen shots of the movie on my computer and then enlarge the pics, so that youŽll have something to start upon!!
