What do ya'll think of a classic muscle car for my first car? I am turning 15 soon, and I know it's a bit early, I just want to decide what I REALLY want...I was looking at the 1970 Chevy Chevelle SS 454...and I was also looking at the 1969 Pontiac GTO, anyone know about how bad the insurance would be??

well, i am the same age and i was quoted about $250 a month for my mustang. so basically all of my $$ goes to gas and insurance

You can get less expensive car insurance for classic cars at places like Hagerty and Grundy but they probably have age limits and certainly have use and mileage limits.

Well, I would probably drive 30 miles a week at most. And I just found out another dilemma, my dad said he doesn't want to get me a muscle car. He wants me to have a truck....and I don't want one. How the hell can I convince someone who HAD muscle cars to let his son have one?

I gotta go with DAD on this one...don't have a muscle car as your first...get a beater, because you aren't gonna respect your first car no matter what it is!!

I don't want a pickup for a first car.....and he insists that's what I get.

I would never let my kid get an SS 454 or GTO as their first car.
It'd be totalled within 6 months. If you want a "muscle car", look at a /6 or 318 Dart or Duster.

If the kid can pay for it himself, who cares what he gets.
Haggerty has an age limit. Must be 25. You will be paying through the nose for insurance at your age.
If you are lucky, you will find a car you can pay for out right for a few hundred bucks. Like a fox body mustang or something cheap to fix and insure.

No matter how old you get the non-classic insurance companies still redline muscle cars with higher rates.
