hello all great community. Well basically I have to do an engine swap on my 95 eclipse GST and the mechanic wants way to much for a used engine so decided to get one myself.
From what ive read i think the turbo eclipse 95 uses 4g63? is this correct? The problem is the motors i see on ebay motors and stuff that say 4g63 , says its for 1st generation eclipses up to 94. So I am a little confused.
Any help would be appreciated and any links or suggestions where to look

You should be looking for 4g63. If you want it to drop right in look for 2g stuff (95-99, 98-99 prefereably).

so there is two engines with the same model number of 4g63?
one 4g63 that fits into up to 94 (1st generaltion )
and another 4g63 that fits into 95-99?

The 90-92 is the infamous 6 bolt motor, there is a 93-94 7 bolt, and the 95-99 7 bolts.

Make sure its a 95-99 though, the 93-94 is the same block IIRC, but some of the front components may not work with the 2g crank sensor and stuff.

I feel like we should go ahead and warn him about crankwalk...
Some 7 bolt motors (the ones that will drop right into 95-99 turbo eclipses) came from the factory with a defect in the crankshaft, which causes it to "walk" or develop excessive play, which kills the bottom end of your motor.
A 6 bolt motor (same 4g63, just from the older eclipse/talon/lasers) can be swapped into your car with a few simple adjustments. Kevin or Jake or a few of the other guys can better explain the 6 bolt swap or refer you to the proper resources.
Very few 6 bolt motors crankwalk. I just felt like I should tell you this, since you are spending a lot of money on a new motor, and if you put in a 7 bolt and it crankwalks in 20,000 miles, you will NOT be a happy camper ;).

And Kevin I think the 7 bolt motor is the more infamous of the two (unless you're a Honduh junkie)! The 6 bolt motor should be famous :D.

Infamous because it makes over 500 whp on stock internals and smokes fools like a champ
I dont like to recomend a 6 bolt swap unless the person is going to DSMlink. The baro wire mod works for most people, especially on smaler turbos, but I dont like it.
