Attention those with lowered suspension

I've been wondering, those of you who have lowered your G,
1) How far out was your camber? negative or positive?
2) How much was the drop?
3) What was the effect on tire wear?
I've been told that when the suspension is lowered in a Primera/G20 that the camber goes positive first and them negative again as it gets progressively lower.
If this is true, then there might be a useable range of lowering where the camber will return within spec. This info will be helpful for those people considering lowered suspension to determine whether they will have camber issues vs amount of drop.
Cheers,
Sandy

Hey Sandy,
When i had my Eibach Springs 30mm dropped, the front cambers were +0.1 and +0.3 left and right respectively.
The outside of the tires were wearing out at a rather unpleasent rate.
It's a P11 i am talking about here

Thanks Patrick, that's the sort info I'm looking for. If we get enough replies like yours it'll become the definitive camber vs drop reference.
Anyone else??
Anyone else??

On my 1.9" drop my camber was 0 and -0.1.

Haynes lists the camber spec for both P10 and P11 as:
0.75 deg negative to 0.75 degrees positive.
So far, these two replies appear to confirm the original assumption.
Please keep posting your numbers people. I'm hoping to get enough info to construct a graph of drop versus camber for everyone to use as a reference. :D

How are you guys measuring drop? I bought my car lowered with coilovers so I'd be interested to know stock ride height and where it's measured for a 99 G20T. I assume I'd also need to know the radius of a stock wheel/tire since mine are 17's.

On my P10 when i lowered my car the camber went negative. At both a mild drop and a pretty extreme drop (intrax springs) it was negative both times. I forget exactly where my front camber is, since it's not adjustable i really don't pay attention to it that much, the rear i did have as close to -1.0 degree as possible. I think the front was even a little more negative (maybe -1.5 degrees?). I havn't noticed any weird tire wear yet, my nitto 555zr tires have lasted over 2 years now, including a track event and a couple times at the drag strip, and still have some tread left. I'd say at least 25000 miles, probalby more like 30000+, and still going. :D well, sorta.. i have those azenis now, they kick ass :D

I guess they are just measuring the difference before and after or else going by the advertised drop for their springs.
A USDM FSM may have the specs in it - didn't Luke throw one in with the car ???!!! :p (sometimes measured from the ground to the top of the wheel arch on each corner).

Mild drop = approximately how much?
Extreme drop = approximately how much?
Alignment figures = ??
This just helps to quantify things a little more. It might reveal a difference btween P10 and P11 suspension geometry as well. :)
Thanks for reminding me, if anyone has a lowered P10 then please include the rear camber change if possible. (It shouldn't change on a P11 log axle.)

Hey if anyone with H&R springs could answer these questions that would be great, I'm thinking about getting them but I don't want to have postive camber to screw up my track times.

2inch drop camber is 0deg as far as I can tell with a a t-square. tires wearing normally as far as I can see.

Guesstimates of course... mild-moderate (where i'm at now) 2-3 finger's worth all the way around, on 195-60-14 tires.
Extreme was with intrax springs, and that was 0 fingers in the front, or even, rear was about 2-3 fingers. I still can't find my alignment sheets :( Recently I've just used a friend's toe plate to make sure toe is close, as that's all i'm really concerned with, for now, as caster and camber (in the front) are not adjustable.

How many 'fingers' was your car standard? ... and ... please don't think I'm taking the piss here but .... could you measure your fingers for me? Then I can make a comparison with the other data .... :)
Kenchan, thanks for the info :D

HAHA, yeah, sorry.. :biggrin2: I've got skinny fingers too... 2 fingers is about 3.5cm (or a hair under 1.5") and 3 is about 5-5.5cm (right about 2"). sorry, didn't think about that. And stock, i'n not totally sure, but i'd guess about 5 fingers? 8-10cm (3-4") that's between the top of the wheel and the fender. When I measured the ground to wheel well spacing, stock is 658.5mm front and 650.5mm rear. Mine now is 605mm front and 598 rear (average between left and right sides). so about a 53.5mm drop in front and 52.5mm drop in the rear. If that helps more than my not so accurate fingers :flipa: :hehe:

P11 with H&R drop...never needed alighnment...seemed to drive fine but unusual tire wear...the outside of my tires wore especially on the left driver LHD side...

How did you know it never needed alignment?, just by how it drove? or if you did get an alignment can you remember what the camber was?
Unless you do a lot of hard cornering, your tire wear suggests positive camber, so I'm picking your P11 is lowered less than say ... 1.5 inches?
Cheers,
Sandy

H&R dropped 1.5inches and yes I did get a alignment once and they said I didn't need it...I didn't get the camber numbers....but I do corner hard sometimes but still shouldn't have worn out how it did...I should have taken pictures before I got new ones...Oops

Thanks ty423, wear might be due to excessive toe-in then?
last thing, P10 or P11?

I don't know if this helps or not but I just got my car aligned today and with stock springs, shocks, everything and with me in the car I had +0.7 front drivers side and +0.5 front passeger side and -1.5 on bothe the rears. I am realy pissed about the postive camber in front I guess that explains why it pushes so much at the track:( .
