Hi tdiesel:
So you have a "Chris Bangle 2004 530i", so do I, and I have been diligently looking for a cell phone that will work with the iDrive system that will not require me applying another Bimmer loan at the bank! :banghead: (LOL)
I met a BMW 04 525i owner who said a Motorola v60 cell phone will work with a BMW 5 series cell phone bracket when it is installed at BMW dealer for around $220.00, (software included), but I have not tested that out yet, because I am still purchasing other things i.e. 7yr 100,000 mile Fidelity Extended warranty that was $3,500, but thanks to this forum, I did some www research and got mine at my BMW dealer for $2300.00. :grinno:
(I do not know if you too was new to this BMW forum or not, but I have no idea what I would had done, if it was not for the BMW owners and BMW mech/tech's advice from BMW dealerships from around the country that are members here at this forum. One big issue I had was my extended warranty, which I saved well over $1,000.00 on by their advice, and a few other things that I did not know BMW preventive maintenance wise, and it too would had cost me more $$$ in the future if is was not for members here at this forum!) :grinno:
Anyway, "tdiesel", lets try to stay in contact on things we find out about our 04 530i's Bimmer's, that could possibly be a help for one another in the future with other issues. My email address is: [email protected] ([email protected]).
Sincerely,
"Presley348" = Eddie Presley = Atlanta GA :smokin:
PS,
Did you buy the premium, or sport packages, the xenon's, the nice, but I feel overpriced ($1,800.00) Harman Kardon CD System?
Also are you going to let BMW change your oil every 15,000 miles? (I know it is good BMW/Castrol synthetic motor oil, but I am going to change mine every 7,500miles).
Can't stand having the equipment and not being able to use it!=============================================== =================

I hope you don't mind me joining your discussion but I have a 04 530i 6 spd man. (purchased in Dec 03) and at about 12,000 I started to feel a hesitation in the acceleration between 4000 and 4500 rpm. I've taken it to the dealer twice and they haven't been able to identify the cause or repair the problem. Have either of you had this problem?
Further, yesterday I recieved a "voluntary recall" notice from BMW indicating that 04 525s and 530s need to be brought in and reprogramming needs to be done to fix a problem with the emissions. I'm hoping/thinking that this may also address the hesitation problem that I'm having. Have you heard anything about this???
Any info you may have would be greatly appreciated.

Hi RT5:
Welcome to our 2004 BMW 5 series postings! People can say what they want, and everybody including myself resist change sometimes, especially changing from such a winning design style model as with the BMW E39 five series, but I really like the new five series with "Chris Bangle's" new design E60, and the lighter, more power, better MPG, better handling capabilities than its five series predecessor, and most of all the new idrive, all on the new five series.
Now I realize it might sound this way, but I am not putting down the E39 BMW five series at all, they are still fine Bimmer's with excellent resale value! (I hope our E60s has the excellent BMW resale value as the E39's do)
RT5 Thanks for sharing, and I do wish you the best in getting your problem resolved, (be sure to keep us updated on how things turn out for you, because I purchased mine in March, 04 and my 530i is: T. Silver, with the 6-Speed Steptronic Automatic Transmission, Premium Package, and Xenon Adaptive Headlights. Today mine has only 2,490 miles but it is going to have a lot more miles on it in the next couple of months, and I hope not, but I am almost sure what happened to yours will probably happened to my Bimmer also :banghead: ).
Also I read here at the forum where BMW does have a "voluntary recall, on fixing the emissions issue, but I have not got my recall yet, but thanks, I will be sure to check with my BMW dealer!
Sincerely,
Presley348 :smokin:

My 530 is Silver Gray, Sport, Cold Weather and Premium Packages, rear sun shade and xexon lights. I'm having a good time with it but this "emissions" problem is really getting on my nerves.
Have you had a chance to open it up yet? I've had mine up in the 120s-130s a few times :evillol: and its a really good time it you like that kind of speed. It changes into a completely different at about 100mph.
Did you get the sprots package? If so and you have the 245/40 Dunlops on it then you can also look forward to some road noise from the tires after about 2-3 months when the rubber starts to dry out a little bit. The tires REALLY stick to the road but the sound get to be annoying.

Hi RT5 ! ! !
No, I did not purchase the sport package, I wanted too but I was told by some BMW owners to stay away from it, because it is hard to keep aligned properly, because of the Active steering and the larger rims, and the tires wear quickly, and will need replacing every 10,000 to 15,000miles. :banghead:
Now I appreciate their suggestions, but I liked the sport package, because of the new near flat steering that the active steering produces! I also like the 18 inch run flat tires, I did not pay the extra $3000.00 and buy the sport option, but I did buy the premium package, and xenon's and premium sound system.
No, I have not opened my up . . . yet, ! ! !, but I did do a quickness test from 0 to 40 in 3.8 seconds. I get get good MPG: 26.2CITY and 34.3HWY. :grinno:
Have you found a quality 3rd party BMW parts and accessory company yet? I am getting tired of paying BMW high pieces for accessory's! :loser:
Sincerely,
Presley348 :smokin:
PS,
I did buy a 7yr 100,000 extended warranty plan with mine for $2,400.00, because this being the first year of the E60, I am not taking any chances with having to pay out more Mega $$$ for that iDrive system if it should go out, (Heaven forbid!).
