stuck key

I just purchased a 1995 Mazda Millenia. First thing that went wrong after I purchased the car for my son. The car would not go beyond neutral after parking. I found gook in it. I cleaned the mess.
The next saga,the ignition key will not come out after putting the car in park! I have to disconnect the battery cable, then the key will release. It sounds electrical.

Does anyone know what to do?

I need a manual for the 1995 Mazda Millenia.
