I have an 89 Buick Century 3.3l, I've been using 5W-30 since thats was printed on the oil cap, but many people have been telling me to use Straight weight 30 since the engine has 160,000 miles on it. My question is should I. I was thinking about switching to valvoline max life on my next oil change, should I, if so, should I use 5w-30 or 10w-30 or what else. I've been using the STP oil filter but next I'll stop being cheap and get a FRAM or is there anything better?
Thanks

Stay with the 5w-30 oil. The 5w-30 is the same weight as a straight 30W when it is hot anyway so there is no advantage to going with the heavier oil. Secondly, the valvoline max life is a good choice and there are others available. As far as filters go there is nothing wrong with an STP filter. Actually some car owner call the fram the orange filter of death. If you want a more expensive filter try a Mobil One or buy a Hastings or Wix. They are far superior to the Fram based on several tests I have seen.
