My 95 doesn't want to go into drive upon a cold start, after a mile or so it will and I won't have any problems untill the truck sits again. What's up with that?

Shift points are engine temperature dependent. If you engine is cold, the upshifts are delayed. You can usually force an upshift by letting off the accelerator for a second or two.

So this is normal on the 4runner's? I've owned over a hundred other vehicles although only one Toyota (2000 Celica GT with manual trans.)and have never experienced this with any of them.

Yes, it's normal. You will find that you can tell when your thermostat goes bad by your shift points changing. If your thermostat sticks open, you will never get into 4th gear.

As long as your thermostat is working, you will heat up in a couple of minutes. You can put a piece of cardboard in front of the radiator to block 1/2 of it to help warm up. I know you have a block heater...:)
