BMW V12 into a Pre emissions car?

Hi guys i've been thinking of building something that i could use as a daily driver and a track car and i was wondering what you guys thought of the SOHC or DOHC BMW V12's? How much work would it be to put one of these into something like a Datsun 240 or a shelby cobra if i replaced the drive by wire TB's with cable actuated ones? Would i need a custom fuel management system to cope with additional mods? Are there any major pitfalls associated with this engine (reliability, Powerband, etc)? Also is the V12 physically compatible with the SMG from the M3 and if so what would be involved in making that operate properly? BTW i am fairly mechanically inclined (i'm an apprentice tech) so tools shouldn't be an issue. Any help with this would be really appreciated.
