Im Considering an exhaust upgrade for my 2000 Silverado 4.8. Nothing wrong with the OE, but I miss that throaty sound of a nice set of cherry bombs. Any Ideas on a system that will still pass NJ inspection? I am leaning towards Flowmaster ....but which headers?...

Already put on a Gibson stainless catback dual system and am happy as a clam with it. Sounds great. Not too loud, but lets you know that somethings definitley there. Just picked up a set of Gibson stainless headers for $250.00 off of ebay. Should make a nice difference in performance and mpg!

I've got a set of Edelbrock headers on my 2000 4.8L. Very noticeable difference. Got em online for $320 (had to get the A.I.R. version, damn california emmissions). I also have a flowmaster 40 series Delta flow on it. Its nice and mellow at idle speeds but once you open her up it screams :iceslolan

Wouldn't anything pass inspection if you keep the cats in place? I dunno b/c I don't have to worry about that smog crap where I live.

If you leave the cats in place or put on aftermarket cats, you shouldn't have trouble with emissions inspections. If you take them off or bore them out, move somewhere that doesn't inspect emissions! Wish we didn't have it here around NYC.

yeah you need cats for smog in ca, but there's also an A.I.R. injection system thats connected into the headers that is also needed to pass smog. it's just another pipe comin off the header, sorta like the EGR.
