i have a 1998 jeep wrangler with a 6 cylinder 4.0, just recently it started grinding slightly when putting it into reverse. only when i let up on the clutch and push it in again right before going into reverse. if i get in and push in the clutch and start it and then put it in reverse with out letting up on the clutch and pushing it back it again then it wont grind, and its kind of slow grind and if i wait a couple secs before putting it into reverse it wont grind as bad, or at all somtimes. does my clutch just need adjusting or could it be worse. and how do y ou adjust a clutch

It's the noise it makes when it goes in reverse. I think it's the chain linkage. Mine does it also and I feel like my clutch is normal. Don't sweat it.

your clutch is hydraulic,so its not adjustable.it might be starting to go.the reason reverse grinds and not any other gears is because reverse doesnt use a synchro

jokingly i call it hte wind up toy sound. Reverse is a rough cut gear that is not synchronized. A lil trick, put it in first at a full stop, it will sync the gears and allow for an easy shift into reverse. A common problem is that when shifted into reverse how you would normaly think the stick will only go as far as the gear and not into it hence the grind.
