paperclip and engine codes

Hey all,
I have a 1995 Tahoe, and have been getting the service engine light for awhile now, and it comes on at different times. A guy down at the parts store said I could test it w/ a paperclip, and so I did. Though from what I read, you can only do the paperclip test from 1984 to 1994. Well I wasn't aware of that, and apparently he wasn't, because he went on and did it, and it flashed the 12 like it's suppose to, and it also flashed the error code of 32. Everything seemed like it worked.

So my question is, does that mean I might have the older ECM unit, like a pre 1995 or something. They say the older ECM is under the radio, while the newer ones are under the steering column. My unit is under the steering column, but like I siad it still seem to work w/ the paperclip.

Thanks
Mike

On a 95 the diagnosic connector should be under the steering column, and the ECM to the right of the glove box. You can get the codes by using the paper clip and the service engine light.

95 is a crossover year. You may get some codes that correspond to the earlier years and you may get some that dont have any definition at all. My friend's parents have a 95 Tahoe with a new OBD2 connector, but the sticker under the hood says OBD1. Wierd, aint it? But I can still bridge connectors and get codes to flash. -Chris
