I am tired of the rich owners getting richer, the players getting richer at the expense of the general public.
For the owners to make more money or to pay the players more they increase ticket prices above the level of most people to afford a ticket.
I have been to major league baseball games at 40 dollars a ticket, NFL football is around 80 dollars a ticket for a decent seat. All sports are the same for ticket prices. Yet the teams whine about empty seats! You don't have to wonder why that is.
In my town we have a minor league baseball team ticket prices are 8 dollars for the best seats and 6 dollars for the worst seats. Our minor league hockey team is about 20 for the great seats. Our Arena league football team is about 20 dollars also. You get the same action and quality of the major league teams for a third of the price.
If we all stopped going then the prices would come down.

I have no time for professional sports. I find the games are just too boring for the money required for the tickets. I have no interest paying huge ticket prices to watch overpaid people 'play' what should be a fun game.
These sports are for kids to play and for people to relax and enjoy themsleves on a local and ameteur level, not for rich owners and players to line their pockets.
As for the NHL, I am amazed they have not learned more from the baseball strike of 10 years ago. They are in the entertainment business. To go on strike will piss off the fans, and will 'kill the golden goose'.
They will go elsewhere for entertainment and will generally have less enthusiasm for hockey when the strike is over.

true. but there is a big difference between hockey and baseball. baseball is boring and only the people that play have much if any respect for it. hockey can be fast pace and entertaining for the crowd.
i suggest people watch the world cup of hockey. now that is some good hockey. canada vs. russia was a sweet game.
and there is a fairly big difference between ameteur and pro level hockey.

I dislike the entire fiasco. There should be no salary cap and the owners should learn to budget accordingly. If some teams can't compete, they'll fold just like any other business and some players will lose their jobs.

what abou the teams in canada? we can't compete with the us dollar.
a salary cap isn't a bad thing. look at baseball where you have the yankees who can buy any player they want. they have a good shot at the worlds series every year with out having to grow and train their own talent.:shakehead then you have teams like the expos who have a great minor leagues system but can't afford to keep them when they become stars.
an insentive based pay system is the way they should go. but then there would be no need for agents and the nhlpa won't go for that.

Either the teams are independent of each other or they aren't. If they are independent, then they have to compete against each other for the best talent. The side effect is that teams that can’t compete will fall out of the league. If they are all part of the greater whole, then they can create a structured salary and the players can’t go screaming collusion (like they did in baseball).
I can stomach it either way, but I don’t like the players demanding that there be no salary structure and not letting teams fold. And I can’t stand owners demanding that players accept a salary structure because they can’t show enough restraint to keep their costs within budget.

cause this is their life. after it is all said and done they don't have much a future. a good percentage of this guys will never be able to live a prductive life after their career is over. the select few can find something
like scout or colour comentary.
