ok so friday night went to a car show...everyone was leaving and there were so many cops on the ramp pulling people over. this stupid lady cop came out of no where in the middle of the road and told me to pull over. i should of just ran her over...it was on the high way after all. gay gay gay fairfax county. loudoun county would never pull me over so such stupidness. and the lady was like..."do you know why i pulled you over". i was like no and she was like "well i can tell your headlights are illegal from a mile away" (i have HID headlights...real ones) who the hell is she to say if my lights are illegal...most hondas and acuras have them now so wtf. and she thought my car was an accord...what an insult. then she went around and was like...did u know this was illegal, thats illegal, those are illegal also, and blah blah. like i fucking give a shit (in my head of course). but she took forever to write the ticket...everyone was at springfield already (the other show). she only gave me 2 tickets tho. exhaust and lights. she said she could tow the car but didnt...whatever. oh yeah did i mention fairfax county is gay?
ok im done. in a pissed off mood.
oh yeah isnt the Apexi World Sport Exhaust 50 state legal? how can i prove this? should i fight this in court? the cop said my exhaust has to be the sound of stock and the world sport is quiet like stock.

You can fight the exhaust ticket easily. All world sport's come with a carb EO plate on the muffler canister.
You can also fight the HID ticket, depending on what your local laws are. The cop wrote that your lights were blue, when they are in fact NOT blue. You can ask them to examine your bulb casing (which won't be tinted any color at all since you have real HID's) to prove that you did not tint your bulbs any color, and that the changing colors are a byproduct of having HID headlights; which are also available on most new cars....which should be pulled over to then, if the "color" issue is what they're fighting for.
Stupid Cop.

Are HID's illegal if they don't come stock with the car? The cop said that you can only have 2 types of bulbs in the front and thats white and yellow and for the back is red or yellow.

Is there anyway I can get a document from Apexi saying that the exhaust is legal?

HID's are, in fact, illegal on cars that weren't designed to include them stock. The reason for this is that low-intesity lights are adjusted a certain way relative to the ground, but HID's are adjusted lower so that they dont blind other drivers. You can get a proper adjustment, and you probly did unless you got APC lights or something.
This shud be easy to fight. cops usually dont show up to court if u fight a BS ticket either, which makes them throw out the ticket.

I looked at my HID ballast and it has DOT with a code on it. Doesn't that mean it is legal? Also, where on the Apexi WS exhaust does it say carb legal? I looked on the tip but all it has is the Apexi insigna stamped on both sides and on the bottom of the muffler is Apexi again with a serial number. I'm not sure how I can prove it is legal. Anyone know? Thanks

Are HID's illegal if they don't come stock with the car?
Thats why i said depending on where you live. Most places consider them illegal if they didn't come on your car stock. (Proper height/angle adjustment issues)
My city doesn't have any issues against HID's.

That serial should be the carb EO number. That's all you need. Although, i'm not sure if carb numbers are relevant to the laws in SC.

Basically you should do research on the laws where you live, since it varies state to state or area counties. In california the exhaust noise limit is 92 db. So you can have aftermarket exhaust but at proper noise level. If it's a noise issue, just buy a db tester at radioshack and have another cop measure it and endorse it as legal, as featured in the september issue of SuperStreet.
the tester is not chump change however they said it would come in handy in future tickets.

how much does the tester run? is it accurate? also, the cop said my exhaust was loud but my car in fact i know the cop didnt hear it, she just assumed it was loud cause it looked loud.

i'd like to correct that Cali exhuast noise is a maxium 95 dB.
They said decibel meter costs, aka Radio Shack Sound Level Meter is about $60. That's if your ticket for loud exhuast, you can prove your muffler street legal by measuring the dB. The law goes by actual dB reading, not because a cop thinks it's loud.
Just get another cop to test your car with the meter, and if its legal, have them endorse your case by getting there signature.
Bring all paper work to court. You only get one chance to prove your case.
Apexi WS is street legal, but the company test them on stock cars. Once you add CAI, headers, hi-flow cat, intake manifolds, turbos, ect. it may cause the exhaust noise to exceed legal limit.

simple solutions. here in florida, you can have your car examined by a police officer and if the car is fine, they just charge you $5. i think thats only when there was actually something wrong with the car (broken taillight, etc.). if there was nothing wrong to begin with, i don't believe they'll charge you. in either case, if they go against you, strap the stock stuff back on, have a cop check off on it, pay the $5 per ticket, and then put it back on.

P.S.
At least it isn't as bad as my ticket. 114mph in a 70mph interstate highway. i plan on fighting it anyways :D

wow that sucks...they would of arrested you on the spot here in va. it's a automatic arrest if you go over 90 mph.
btw how would the db sound tester work? do i put it against the exhaust? do i rev it or let it idle?

in MA.... you cannot modify your exhaust at ALL!!!
That's really wack, what happens when your stock exhaust is rusted and you replace that with a cheap non OEM original muffler like from Pepboys, Kragens, Midas, or Meinikie, isn't that modifying your exhuast too? silly laws.

hold it around 2 ft. from exhuast tip, you can play with different angles, and with the engine revved 3k to simulate the car driving on the streets.

if you wanna know how retarded virginia is (i also live in va), here are some laws i found
-Children are not to go trick-or-treating on Halloween
-It is illegal to sell peanut brittle on Sundays. (Repealed)
-You cannot sell lettuce on Sunday, but you can sell beer, wine etc. (Repealed)
-It is illegal to flip a coin in a restaurant to see who pays for a coffee.
-It is illegal for a woman to drive a car up Main Street unless her husband is walking in front of the car waving a red flag.
-It is legal for a man to beat his wife on the courthouse steps so long as it is before 8:00 pm.
-Any person who owns a pool risks a $2500 fine for not closing the gate to the pool when they get done swimming in it.
i dont know if these are for real or not, but always a good laugh

I work for a major automotive lighting company that supplies HID headlamps to Honda. To make HID system legal on a vehicle it needs the correct bulb marking on the lens and be aimed correctly. Horizontal aim is set by the manufacturer and is not to be adjusted by the end user. Whatever hid bulb is used should be stated on the lens. There should also be a DOT marking on the lens, not the ballast. These laws do not vary from state to state. It is a federal regulation(fmvss 108). I am not familiar with the aftermarket hid systems and cannot comment on their aiming recommendations. Just make sure that your vertical aiming is not blinding the oncoming traffic and you should be golden. Suggest to the officer next time that they brush up on the automotive lighting regulations before they hand out tickets for "illegal" headlights. HID is the light of the future and will someday be standard equipment.

I found out how much each charge is. The improper headlights are 87.00 and the improper exhaust is 36.00. What kind of bs is that? And a court fee of 45.00 if I decide to fight it and lose. What do you think I should do?
