i think a mk2 would be well suited for what you're looking for
and you can always dump a 7mgte in there later ;) hehe

It's not that people don't "give a damn", it's the fact that any responce to your question will be based souly on opinion, the comfort of the car will depend on your taste, gas milage will depend on how heavy your right foot is, and you already answered the reliablility question. The only way to find out if you like it or see if it suits you is to go and drive it for yourself.

The more I see them (since i bought an mk3) the more I like them. There is one around town here with 60-1 trim on the turbo, and some tiny little slicks, he strikes fear into mustang owners everywhere around.
He runs 12.80's @ around 13psi and its a 5M. He always tells me that I will never have a chance at him once he upgrades to a 7M.

So I look at it this way... I live the MKIII more then anyother car in the world.... well except the s900 but thats different.
Anyway, I say that if the car is in good working order you shouldn't have to worry much about gas. I drove my MkIII hard as hell when I had it... and I was 17 at the time so you can guess. I still stand by the fact that it got the best mileage then anyother car I have owned.
Besides there is just something about the MkII it has that ballzy agressive look to it.
