Not really an enthusiast but have a problem

I have a 90 Accord, close to 200,000, I know she's old but hey, she usually gets me from A-Z with no problems. Now I'm having starting problems with the car starting. First it was the need of a new alternator, then new battery cables, now....I have no clue what's going on. I went to start my car today and all it will do is "tick" rapidly. Seems plenty of power in the car. No dimmed lights, stereo comes on etc etc. I opened the hood and had my fiance try to start the car and it sounds as though the sound is coming from the distributor area. I grew up working on cars with my dad so some basic things I know but I've never had to check anything with the distributor before. How can I assertain for sure if the problem is in the distributor, cap, or plugs? Or maybe something completely different. I thought maybe starter at first attempt but then remembered when I had replaced the starter on my Jimmy that the click had come from some where else. Anyway, totally clueless how to check and would appreciate some advice.

If your hearin clickin I think its the batt not havin enuf power. Is your engine turnin over or is it just clikin? It could also be the silenoid in the starter or the starter it self.

I thought about the battery but every other time I've had a battery problem I've seen some other kind of low power sign. Like the lights being dim or window just slowly going down. Stuff like that. Once when the alternator was starting to go out it did it intermittantly. Full power then things going weak again. This, I turn the ignition first switch and everything goes fine but go to actually crank and just the noise. I've thought about the selenoid but it sounds like the noise is directly from the distributor. Won't hurt to check both I guess. I wonder if the ignition coil would cause the same kind of problem. I've been lucky until now. The things that have gone wrong on my car I could figure out and fix myself. This is about enough to break the silence with my dad to ask him to help me fix. Thanks for replying. :)

I dont know if this will help or not, but at one point i owned a 91 honda accord, and had to have my distributor replaced. I did this myself, but in the process i learned a few things that may or may not be widely known. The distributors on the earlier model accords seem to have some problems with them once they accumulate the mileage. Has yours been changed? if not i'd look there, u can usually pick one up pretty cheap from the junk yard in rebuilt condition, i wouldnt attempt to buy one from the dealership though....it may bankrupt u....j/k, but not too far from the truth. One tell tale sign though is oil leaking from the distributor cap. I dont know the truth of this, but i was told that most distributors that honda builds are built to such exacting tolerances that no internal gaskets are used. Only the gasket where the distributor mates with the head. Over time from normal wear and tear, the distributor innards wear down, and allows oil to leak out, which in turn messes up the contacts inside the cap. Well like i said, not sure if this will help u or not, Just an idea. NOT a distributor expert, so i may be wrong.

Just to clarify - if it's not CRANKING, the problem is NOT the distributor, coil, etc. It can ONLY be something in the starter circuit. Which means battery, starter, solenoid, or the wiring in between. Check the wiring connections first (clean, tight).
