Keyless entry question

Ok, another Q on my cav. The guy that sold me the car gave me two remotes for it. He called them "clickers." Forgive him--he's an old-time car guy. He said they needed to be programmed. He also gave me another piece that came with the car. It is about 3 inches by 4 inches, black plastic casing. On three sides it has tiny prongs and slots--like stuff plugs into it. What is this? I'm thinking maybe a transmitter/receiver for the keyless entry? Do I have to take it to the dealer to have this installed and programmed (my car is a 1999) or can I go to a auto shop where they install that stuff? Thanks!

look at other postings for your year vehicle about remote programming, as the instructions vary from year to year.

Here's how to program the clickers
turn ign off
open trunk and find 2 wire programming connector in left side of trunk
use a paperclip or something to jump the pins in connector
Door locks will cycle
press adn hold LOCK & UNLOCK on a clicker for 15 seconds
door locks will cycle
press adn hold LOCK & UNLOCK on other clicker
door locks will cycle
remove jumper from connector
As far as the other plastic thing......have no clue
