brake shoes

does anyone know which is considered the primary and secondary shoe on a 97 blazer. Both shoes are identical except one of them has more brake linging on it. I'm not sure which position the shoes go. More lining towards the front of the car or towards the rear. I bought this thing used and I'm not sure who last worked on this thing

They should have a small difference you can reference with the ones you have on your truck now.

I'm not sure if the way they are on the truck is the right way. I guy I bought it from seemed like he played around with the brakes. I'm not sure that I'm looking at the right thing

You need to look at your own brakes and/or buy a chilton's repair manual for your truck.

Without it, you are doing this job blind and that is NOT a safe thing with such an important part like your brakes.

I'm hoping to save myself the cash. I really only have one major concern about this brake job, that is: Are the shoes with longer lining considered the primary, and do they face the rear of the vehicle? The shoes are identical except the lining lenght. The rear shoe gets the emergency brake.

I just got on the board with the exact question that jkdon had-this forum ROCKS!.

Just a little advice for the "weekend mechanics" like myself. Go ahead and invest in the spring tools if you're working on your rear drum brakes!

Your thumbs will thank you. I learned the hard way!
