We've checked the battery and all the wires but our 92 explorer still wont start! When we try to start it it sounds like it is not making good connection. What do we look at next?

when we turn the key over it makes one click. try it again one click. Thats usually what happens when your not getting a connection. But we have tried all the cables and wires. could it be the starter?

if you check the cable and the battery is good, then yes the stater the one is bad. Please double check your battery though, you can do this if you have another car try to jump it, if it turn over than the starter is fine, if it still making a click sound than replace the starter

1) check battery if good then
2) check starter if good then comes the big one
3) replace the battery cable. This is a known problem. It's really long and FORD has them in stock. Don't believe you can get at AutoZone, Kragen's etc.
I had same problem on my 92.
Good Luck and let us know what happens.

finally found out that it was the starter. I've never had a starter just quitthe way this one did. But this is the first time that I have owned a ford so I guess we'll live and learn

Not getting a good connection to me means that absolutely nothing is happening. A "Click" means you either have a battery that is almost dead or your starter is bad! In this case you tried to jump the vehicle with the same result, which indicates to me that your battery is not the problem. Be as specific as you can when explaining problems. Never assume that someone else has the same understanding of a problem as you do.

you know what Mike I explained it the best I could. No one else seemed to have a problem with my question. And they knew what was wrong because they told me how to fix it. Hope you have a good time writing that on every post because everyone describes things the best they can. I thank those who helped me.

If you would have said in your original post that "It Clicks" when you turn the key.......I would have told you then that your starter is bad and you would have fixed your vehicle 5 days earlier than you did!

you might try reading the posts a little better! when you asked me to tell you the first time what it was doing I told you it just clicked. But like I said everyone else read the post and told me what was wrong with it. Do you find the need to go on every post and tell everyone what they are doing wrong?!

Sorry......you're right, I didn't have a chance to log on the last week. I was trying to survive the hurricanes here in Florida! Glad to hear you got your Explorer fixed.
