not always. Like we have stressed in this forum. Its not so much the car, but the drivers and his or her attitude. Now if you get a two tone or metalic paint job and think that some how its going to make your car faster, well then thats a ricer.

Why do you guys keep asking "Oh is this a ricer?" or "Is that a ricer?" or "Is he a ricer?"? Come on, read the whole thread and go to the link JekylandHyde posted and find out for yourself. Its pure attitude. You are your car. So basically, whatever feelings, emotions, beliefs, or anything show by how you mod your car. Modding your car is a different form of art.

I know everyone wants to say that most ricers drive hondas but what i have seen there are more cavaliers with huge wings/ decals/ type r stickers and other various auto zone mods than i see hondas with the same. That and anyone with a V6 mustang or camero with gt or ss badges

well to answer his question "is this rice?" i have to say it's not, it is stupid looking, true, but the car itself is not rice... it's the person driving it... if you get a civic and throw 30000000 stickers on it and know it's only for fashon and not for speed and don't boast about it's speedy capabilities, then the car is just that... a car with alot of stickers on it. I honestly believe that it's not the car's fault so we shouldn't label the car "rice" or whatever, label the driver, because they are the one's torturing a fine piece of machinery.

ok another thing... you guys keep saying how you think a kid with a car with a huge muffler on it is a ricer well along with my mods of an intake, springs, shifter, i also happen to have a muffler, which i know along with many other people that exaust adds horsepower. my civic started out with 99 hp and 132 at the wheels, and i keep working on making that number greater. im working on putting a turbo kit together(so if anyone has anything theyre selling let me know) on top of all the mods i do have a wing and am working on a body kit but that doesnt make me a ricer. i know sh*t about cars and although you may have horsepower you need the looks too.

I always assumed that the term ricer was originally used by Dimestic Racers to crack on import
Racers. Never thaught it was because of lights and unnecessary addons. Damn that means alot of my friends are ricers. HaHa sucks for them.
I always used the term Taco for those kind of modifications. Guess its different here in South Carolina, cause putting auto-zone, advanced auto lightes and stickers is all mexicans do down here.
Everything PEP Boys, Autozone and every auto place has to offer. Maybe all these ricers get a discount at those places. It's funny how everyone describes a ricer the same way...they all get their parts at the same place....maybe even take turns switching parts out.
Although I some what agree, I also have to disagree. I would never buy any type of performance part from there, but I get oil, (NGK Spark Plugs), other hardware, gaskets, sealants, and other important useful utilities from there.

actually it does add horsepower, if you replace the stock muffler with after market exhaust you gain 5+ hp. so why dont you go take a look at some dyno sheets.

Step away from your import tooning mags and get a clue.
Edit: Also, please get your terminology straight. Do you mean "muffler" or do you mean "exhaust"?

If you put a muffler that isn't a muffler and just allows unrestricted flow I'd imagine you'd gain some.
But any street legal muffler? I've never seen them make any difference, Exhaust yes. Muffler no.
and just so you know.

That is a muffler.
edit:\ Well Technically I guess it's a muffler with Tips, but you get my point.

That is a very vague thing to say. Maybe it added 5hp on your car, but that varies on other cars. Please don't waste your time buying a muffler. If your going to spend money on your car, get a quality exhaust that is going to add hp and sound good doing it. Ricer is a term used by domestic racers to crack on import racers. What we are thinking of is posers or wannabes. Its good to have them though. Wouldn't it be so much harder to spot respectable car people if everyone drove nice cars?

WRONG!
I am a fan of both domestic and import cars. I am currently aiming for a Mustang GT, but among my favorite cars are the M3, Supra, Z Series, Corvette, Mustang and many others.... Notice anything? They are both imports and domestics. However I use the term Ricer all the time...A diss on imports? No! I have seen more domestic rice lately to match all the Civics, then I have ever wanted too. Including seeing a stang in the paper for sale with mods listed as "new wing, body kit, and euro lights" and caviliers (stock 2.2s) with kits , lights, and HUGE wings. So dont make ricer just imports. It is an attitude, it is a stupidity, but it is not a certain kind of car.

I said this in this thread before and I'll say it again. Ricer, I think, is anything you would see on the Fast and Furious movies. Rice was a term given to the import guys who did the whole wing and fart can thing. Now rice is starting to hit the american car really hard. Is being a ricer an attitude thing? Yes, but it also has a lot to do with your car too. The way I see if somebody is a ricer, just take the Fast and Furious test.

It is completely true that "Ricer" is an attitude, one that does not require you to have a civic or corolla with fartcan ect.. or any car at all. The dumb kids walking home from school who see riced out cars fly by speeding through school zones and think that they are the best/coolest cars on the road are just as much ricers as the ones driving the cars.
Example: I graduated from highschool last year, and atmy old school was this guy with a very ricy late model prelude and an attitude to match.
The car was stock or near stock internally (I know because it's slow as hell, although everytime I've seen him race he had excuses) and was weighed down by huge spoller and what has to be a few hundred pounds of stereo junk (huge sub in between what used to be the back-middle seat). And almost everyone in that school thought his car was the cats ass.
Anyways I can remember one time when I overheard some guy asking his buddy who he thought had the fastest car in the school. The guys answer was of course the Ricer Prelude.
I interupted them and asked, "What about the Turbocharged '94 Mustang GT sitting right there in the parking lot?"
The answer I got was something like "that peice of sh*t is domestic"
Me: "So what?"
Them: "That means its slow"
I got the same sort of BS responses when I asked about the VW Golf GTI and my own car (Alfa GTV6).
Here in Vancouver we seem to have a problem with prejudice towards any car not made in Japan among a lot of kids. There is not really much domestic rice here, so those who do decide to rice out an american car seem to get scorned even by other ricers. Also, to these kids, anything made before roughly 1980-85 has no chance of being fast at all (even if it is Japanese).
So to sum it up:
-you dont have to own a ricer car, or even a car to be a ricer
-Ricers (In vancouver, It seems that elsewhere ricer have more sense and respect) have no respect for any car not from Japan.
-Kids are growing up on this Ricer culture, and that means a whole generation of born and bred ricers will soon be getting their liscences and their own cars...

eg stickers[nismo is the classic, on any car of any manufacturer], floormats, fart tips, hole in muffler, etc

rice to me is attitude and appearance. You can drive an auto or a slow 18 second car. As long as you give a decent efford and have a good attitude your not a ricer. You become a ricer when you drive around like your a hardass and your car is covered with tacky exterior mods and a crappy sound exhuast. Rice can be import or domestic.

I've been reading all the post and I have come to a revalation. Ricer, is the word and we want to know its definition. Rice, is something people eat in Japan, and they eat a whole lot of it. A Ricer is an import from Japan like, example, a civic.
Lets face it people, Ricer is attitude somebody has towards their car from Japan. You can't have an American or European ricer car.
Now, what about people doing flybys, fart cans, useless wings, stickers, mocking, mouthing, rims, tires, racing parts (not done to the engine), seats, tacs, speedos, paint jobs, stereo systems, pussy burnouts, bad launches, bad races, BAD CARS, and on and on and on and on and on with a non-japanese car? My revalation is, these people are not ricers, it's very simple what they are....DICKHEADS!
People who do the crap like "my car is better than yours!" are dickheads, plain and simple. Now ricers (I think) are under a class of dickheads. Dickheads who think their car is the best thing ever and hotdog all the time with a car from Japan are ricers. Dickheads who do the same thing but use American cars are....they don't have a name yet (we should make a name for them, like...Americer).
Anyway this is my theory/revalation/whatever, you can like it or hate it I don't really care.

A "ricer", is a poser that will torque steer or e-brake slide at any chance that he or she gets. Usually in a car with LOTS of decals for parts that they do not have, and can be found shooting off at the mouth about times that they havent run. They add simple mods and think they're undefeatable, and when they get beaten, they run off at the mouth with excuses and threats of violence. My example would be this kid with a car like mine in the 4 cyl version (not that it matters because they're both slow as Ted Kennedy), claiming that his car was an "unfinished" turbo or supercharger setup due to the whine that made it's presense known everytime he gave it some gas. After looking at his engine and determing that he had most likely spun a bearing, he instantly got defensive. This same guy told me that his intake manifold runners were his headers, and that front wheel drive was better for drifting because he "played need 4 speed: underground ALL DAY MAN!" :nono: . Ricers make it hard for the people that actually enjoy hanging out at spots because they're always attempting burnouts or bouncing off the limiter in their stupid cars. They slow up the local tracks on friday nights just so that they can get their 15.xx-17.xx timeslips (not that those are anything to be ashamed of if thats what you have, but they do it stock or damn near stock cars with the eception of an air filter :loser: ). A real piss off at times.. :banghead:
I think that about sums up "ricers", they're really "simple" people
