crankwalk...

call me an idiot or anything you'd like, but i've been wondering about this for a while. i always hear the Mitsubishi people bitching about crankwalk, but i could never figure out what it is. anybody want to explain?

While the link does show an explanation, I'm not sure it would be crystal clear to everyone....
Crankwalk refers to the crankshaft moving back and forth along its rotating axis in the journals. It would be like grabbing the front or rear of the crank and pushing and pulling to see how much play 'in and out' there is. Therefore, anything that is fixed to either end of the crank will be moving in and out too. Most crankshafts are "fixed" or limited in some way to limit this movement, usually with thrust bearings.
