Idles too high

1993 Park Ave. Engine idles too high which mkaes the tranny bang while shifting out of gear. Is there any way to correct this ? I am a new owner of the Park Ave and it will take some time to get to knwo this car, lol

If I would have to guess right now, ahh I'd say about 13-1500. I will chk tomorrow to make sure. I do know that when I put it in neutral it went up to around 2000

Could be a throttle position sensor(TPS)

could be a stuck idle air motor or a serious vaccuum leak..

As far as this issue goes, if I let the car idle for about 3-5 minutes it will kick itself down to around 900-1000 rpms. Does this help anyone in determining what the problem might be ?

do these things have throttl body, if so, that may need cleaned and lubed. runs about 80 bucks at the dealer

On all my GM cars (3) when the temperature is cold,the engines start at 13-1500 rpms and when warming up drop to 1000.I think yours is correct.If the sensors involved are good its doing what it was designed to do.

Hell even when it's warm out it starts up high. So your saying this is probably normal ? I would have to dissagree. My father has a 96 PA and his does not do this. What bugs me is that after a few minutes it will in fact drop down to 1000 rpm's
