Help! Brake Lights Stay on ALWAYS!

:uhoh: Chronic problem...93 Suburban 2500 4WD
All lights will be working normally, then suddenly I'll notice the brakelight controller light is constantly lit....if I get out and check the brakelights, they are ON, even though I'm not pressing the brake pedal...sometimes they even stay ON when the truck is off and the key is removed!
(Brakes are NOT engaged though...problem happens whether I'm towing or not, and I don't think the brake controller has anything to do with it, just its usually how I first notice the problem..)
Sometimes when this happens, the ABS light comes on too...other times, the brake lights will be OFF and refuse to light at all....
Have had it checked several times,(by brake guys and once by automotive electricians) each time I'm told it was just the brake light (?sensor, relay switch?) that resides up under the dash, its attached to the brake pedal..."just out of adjustment"...anyways, this switch has been replaced several times due to me breaking it when I have to attempt to adjust it, (to turn OFF the brake lights, for example) I break it, by moving it back and forth too far and breaking the plastic clip that keeps it clipped to the break pedal. (currently its ziptied to the pedal, but I have no brakelights...avoiding driving it, of course)
Whats the proper technique for adjusting it? Why doesn't mine STAY adjusted? What should I ask to be checked or done to fix it? And WHO is the proper repair place? Brake guys just wiggle it till it works, but it never stays working...Please help...

try chiltons or haynes manaul for your burb maybe they can help

try checking the wiring and bulbs in the tail lights. Could be a wire shorting from the marker light side to the brake light side, giving the brake lights juice and backfeeding through the system.

Thanks for the replies...I broke down, took it to the dealer and they gave me a pat on the back and said"you shouldn't be having any more problems--it'll stay adjusted now"...didn't say what they did, just said "they're hard to get right" implying the "other guys" didn't know how to adjust it so it would stay....whatever...if it stays adjusted, it was worth the $....thanks again
