30 Days - Honda Vs Nissan

Ok, i got real sick of everyone trashing on my car at work, evryone takin about how great all there cars are, so after my boss kept on goin about, how friggin fast he thinks his stupid ass 88 maxima is, i challanged him to a race.. its gonna be after work on a friday in about 30 days..

so here the deal, his car is a boat, weighs in at like 3,200 lbs, but hes got a v-6 that puts out 157 hp, and 168 - lb of torque

my little hatch only has a 1.5 - with CAI and in a week or to will have a new DC style header, High-flow cat, and 5Zigen exuast. I run 96 octane gas, with full snynthetic oil. and completly gutted carpet. But I need help...

What can I do to beat this thing.. The day before the race, I plan on cleaning out the car, taking out the spare tire, sub with amp, and the passenger side seat. I know that wont help to much but i want to make sure I beat this guy.. Plus ill make sure i have like 1/4 tank of gas..

I have a budget a little less that 150 bucks, so what ever advice you guys have would be great... Im goin to the junkyard this saturday, and plan to rip out as much MPFI stuff out of an SI they dropped there last Saturday, and if I have Extra cash, to pick up the 5-spd tranny! but i dont know if i can get that stuff on in time.

Does any one Have any suggestions on what else I can do???

i would do a oil change take your hood off. buy some injector cleaner. if you dont take off your hood take out your passenger headlight. and buy some new HAZARD BULBS your gonna use them alot i guarntee you that. :sunglasse

I think i might cut a hole in the bumper, right in front of the CAI filter,
plus i have to add a quart of oil once a week any way, i think i might need a new valve cover gasket

its just like the cheapest CAI i found on ebay.. not great, but it gets the job done like 48 dollars

I drive aroudn all the time with no hood, cops never said a thing to me. But differnt places differnt rules. You wont see a power differnce anyway, plus aerodynamics suck with no hood on.

just get it up to running like factory, fuel filter, pcv valve, plugs, wires, cap, rotor. Just a good tune up if you havnt done those things in a while.

We dont have pcv valves, well no civics our gen that ive seen.

This right here will give you the edge. A couple guys are actully using these in fresno from fresnoracing.com. Its only like a 30 shot of nitrous but hell it will get you a few more ponys, one time use per bottle. No fail safes or anything you will have to learn how to use it but worth it if you really want to beat him. BTW the guys here are using them to spool turbo. MPFI swap...try going to a junkard and find an Si hatch/crx or EX 4g4d and take off the MPFI and swap that...this will help you a great deal more.

Yes they all do. i think your thinking of an EGR valve. which only the CRX hf's and automatic dx hatchs had. so most of the time you dont see them.

The guy knows nothing about cars, it runs completly stock, and has like 160,000. He's leaking coolant, and somtimes his radiator fan, dosent even work (some kind of electrical problem) and thinks his car can race

Those things are great for a little extra power gain. I thin after I get all the sheeet done to my car I may get one to. Maybe hook it up to my Pocket Bike. Now that would be fun.

the thign is you are doing all these alterations to your car and when he wanted a race with you it was stock basically and when you race it will be stripped out with loads of new parts :?

you'll still lose

loose the wheels. If you don't loose the wheels make sure you drop the pressure to about 25 psi...just don't hit any pot holes. Stripping ur car isn't worth the hassle to save 25 pounds.
convert to mpfi if you haven't already.
DEFINITELY get the si tranny. alone, it will make you faster than if you just did mpfi swap.
bolt on your header, cat, and exhaust.
Don't launch revving high....ride the clutch for a second until you don't have the tires spinning and then floor the gas.
It's gonna be tuff for you. I think after doing all this it might be a close race with the si tranny. If you don't have that si tranny...you don't have a shot pal. His car might be heavier...but he has the torque to pull it and pull past you....
If you get a chance...swap on a vtec head...with the si tranny, and mpfi. He'll still take you off the line...but with a vtec head you'll pass him.
BTW....race from a stop. A race on the highway is not a REAL race.

the old maxima is probably like a 16 or 17 second car...

He will still loose. a buddy of mine has an 89 max it's a piece but it pulls decent for an old ass car with a v6.

you dont have a prayer in the world unless you get a 5speed si trans, and learn how to properly launch your car in the next 30 days. Even then, I think he's got you by at least a few lengths in a 1/4 mile...Even more on the top end.

a 5 speed maxima vs. a 4g Si is a fairer comparison. This is STOCK mind you, with no damage or wear and tear on either car.

Comparisons on beat ass cars is lame...lol...its like saying, "my car has 3 flat tires, but HIS is missing a spark plug...I THINK I CAN TAKE HIM!!!"

well i have a 300z wich basicly has the same motor that maxima has got and its a pretty fast car it would definetly win to my ZC hatch but the z would take it once it got going..

i would say race him whether you're gonna lose anyway. I'm not a fan of backing down....which is the true 4g spirit cuz everyone underestimates our little cars (except those who drive 'em). If you lose...take it as a learning experience. I used to lose all the time....now with my new setup...I've only lost once...compared to over 20 wins...
