My husband hit a guy at 10 mph the other day and since then my speedometer doesn't work and it won't shift into 3rd and 4th. It will shift into 1st and 2nd okay though. Has anyone had this problem? Any help would be great!!

I have a 1996 Chevy Blazer LT with a V-6 vortec 4.3L engine. It is an automatic transmission and it is an AWD model. Sorry, it's my first time on here. It drives in reverse and will go in first and second. The tachometer still works on it and it has 140,000 miles on it.

I would check the tranny fluid level ASAP!

With the fron impact, you could have ruptured the tranny cooler in the rad and lost your tranny fluid.

Check your coolant for red tranny fluid and viseversa.

Check your tranny fluid in park at hot idle.

Let us know.

We checked the tranny fluid and it was okay. Do you know if there is a speedometer relay somewhere? We checked all of the fuses because we were told that if the speedometer isn't working the car won't shift. I don't know if that's true or not. My husband also tested all of the wires in front of the car to make sure everything was working and they were. My relay went for my turn signals before and a shop charged us like $100 to put in a $10 part so I don't want to get ripped off again.

With no speedometer the tranny won't know when to shift seeing the VSS (Vehicle Speed Sensor) is somehow unhooked.

Do you know where that is located?

on the rear section of the tranny near the output shaft.

It's on the side closer to the back of the tranny.

I just wanted to let you know it wasn't the VSS. We replaced that and it still didn't work so now it's at the shop, where it's been for three weeks. They had to put it on a special transmission computer and it gave a C-code or something like that. The mechanic has cleaned the grounds, checked the solenoids, and now is checking for broken wires. I just wanted to say thanks for the help and I'll let you know what it was if I ever get it back.

3 weeks?

Sounds like they are setting up to screw you.

Be very Careful!

I know there is a tranny shop here, that has people in and out in a hour and a half, that is just for a tranny check.

This smells bad.

No problem should take 3 weeks.

You can put a whole new tranny and engine in in 2 days max.

GO IN THERE AND DEMAND SOME INFORMATION, and don't accept a bullshit brush-off.

The guy who is fixing it this time is honest. He doesn't have his own computer so some of the time was spent waiting to get a computer and then he had to wait for a different code book because the code that came up wasn't in the one that he had. It's just hard to believe that a crash under 10 mph could mess up my tranny so bad. I think part of the reason it's taking so long is the fact this guy has Manear's Disease, don't know if I spelled that right, and sometimes he can't work a full day. Hopefully I'll have some good new soon.

Oh comon, you left it to a guy that isn't fully equipped and sick?

Don't complain about the time frame then, you knew it would take this long.

Take it to a tranny shop and have the work done on it and stop using backyard mechanics.

Actually, I wasn't complaining about the length of time I was just letting people know what steps have been taken in getting it fixed in case they are in a similar situation. I mean don't get me wrong I would like it back but I was aware of his situation when I brought it over. The reason I brought it to him is because he is an excellent mechanic and he is honest.
