overheating

Hi everyone. Just bought a 4RUNNER and it's overheating after about 10 miles . It's not the thermostat as I have had it taken out with no difference at all.
The gauge will show in the middle of the good band when Ihave the heater on full blast but eventually the radiator boils into expansion tank bubbling away and sometimes drips come out of the short hose ( steam condensing?) I was assured that the gauge always sat just below the red line and this was normal but as you can see it isn't.
Forgot to say it's a v6 petrol if that makes any difference .
I used to have a 3 litre turbo diesel and that gauge sat quite low down.
Please help as I am getting grief from the missis cos she took me 500 miles to buy the bugger.

Could be the fan clutch needs to be replaced.

Your radiator may be partially plugged with corrosion or other junk. Try flushing the radiator and engine, then filling it with 50:50 antifreeze:water.
Another possibility is that the head gasket has been recently replaced and the gaskets are on the wrong sides of the engine.
