I've been working on this off and on for months, but have finally made some notable progress. This is the Yellow version by Taimya.

The exterior color for this car will be Tamiya white.

I will also be using the Studio 27 PE set on this build. Part of the set can already be seen on the brakes.

Some of the engine and rear suspension assembly has been completed. I used cigarette paper foil on the firewall. I have used SMS CF decal on the cam cover piece. Tamiya didn't include a template for this part on their CF sheet included in this kit.

Heres some pics.

I wanted to post a pic of the inspiration for this build, but could not find it last night, so here it is.

White may very well be the Enzo's best color!! I like the progress on it so far:sunglasse

The foiling seems very, very tricky to get right. Did you make a template and just aplied it with white glue, or divided it into smaller bits? The engine looks absolutely superb! Aside from one small detail, but I'll get back to that later.*

As many of you said, White seems to be a very, very nice colour to suit the Enzo. On the other hand, I have to disagree with tonio. I think black is the best colour...Don't get me wrong here, but white doesn't really capture the agressiveness (sp?) of the car IMHO. :D

*back to the small detail, and this is just a mere observation and a little nit-pick, as willimo would put it :). On the real car, the cam covers are made from the traditional cast iron (or steel, don't quite remember). And one of the Ferrari traditions (sorry about the repetition) is the grainy look of those covers. Almost everybody paints that as a glossy surface but, in fact, it "should" lood like this:
http://www.c2e.info/images/CAS03/ferrarienzoengine.jpg

I hope you don't get me wrong.

I hope you keep us posted as often as possible. I still have my Enzo to start and your work is always so amazing, that I can't not keep watching this progress. :iceslolan

Wow a white Enzo. I was unaware that they even made that car in that color. This is going to be one unique build.

Pedro.

I made templates using masking tape for the firewall and monocoque and then cut out the individual pieces. (Thanks Alex for the tip) The firewall was 4 separate pieces, and the underside of the monocoque was also 4 separate pieces. I attached them with Kristal Kleer a little watered down. I still have to add the foil to the lower tray, and the bottom of the engine hatch.

Good eye Pedro! :)
I knew the camcovers are "supposed" to be rough. I've seen the car in person a couple of times now. Spraying them with Faux Fabric first then painting red would give it the "correct" look probably. I'll leave it as it is I think. I took some license with the colors anyways.

I'm a little undecided as to how detailed I'm going to make this build.
I'd like to have this done before the Sothern Nationals NNL on November 13th. Along with a F355 (also in progress). And times a-runnin' out.

Thanks all! :)

A white enzo...I cant say its Ferraris finest color but this is your model. The engine bay looks awsome with the heat sheilding. This looks to be a VERY promising build.

By looking at your reference picture it seems that 1/43 carbon would look more in scale. The weave on the real enzo is really small. Then looking back at your engine the carbon looks huge... Maybe its me but the 1/24 according to your reference looks way out of scale.

One other way to do that would be to follow Peter Johnson's small tutorial, that can be found here (http://www.tamiyausa.com/articles/feature.php?article-id=30). It's a great article on the Tamiya Enzo. I recommend it to every modeller, building the Enzo or not!

"(...)This additional item will help replicate actual engine detail. The valve covers are made of two parts. The top part is carbon fiber and was discussed earlier. The bottom part is probably aluminum, painted with a typical Ferrari crinkle finish red. The instruction sheet calls for this to be painted flat red. I have found that a more realistic finish can be achieved by spraying the parts with Tamiya TS-08 Italian Red, from a rattle can. To get the textured finish requires a little different technique. Hold the can about two to three feet(yes I said feet) from the part and spray several coats. This results in a textured, rough finish, because the paint gets very dry when sprayed from that distance. It gives a fine impression of a crinkle finish in 1:24 scale.(...)"

I seem to be getting a lot of shit for my nitpicking comment - am I alone in not thinking that was a bad thing? I like it when my models get picked over, makes me strive for greater fidelity.

Get some more, CADguy, November is coming. And I am impatient....

I totally appreciate constructive criticizms. I learn from my mistakes, and will apply it to future builds, so they are that much better.

Veyron says it best "There's a lesson in every model" So far I've already learned how to make 'realistic' camcovers for the Enzo. I'll sleep ok knowing mine are wrong though. :)

Thanks again for the great comments so far.

I spent many hours last night placing the CF templates that came with the kit. I have to say the Tamiya CF is the best I've worked with. It reacts to mirosol and heat very well.

I placed the decals, softened them with microsol for a minute or 2 and then hit them with the hairdryer, and moved on to the next one. Easy as pie.

They did miss some pieces that are easily covered by the extra they have provided.

I'll shoot some more pics after they get a coat or two of Future.

Here's a link showing all standard Ferrari factory colors for 2004. All models are available in all colors:

And one for 2004 Murcielagos:

The only one not listed is the 40th Anniversary color. Still looking for the paint code on that one.

The majority of the templated CF decals have been placed that came with the kit. There was enough extra to CF the center console, and lower parts of the dash, and I had to do one of the seat backs twice because of an OOPS.

I modified the dash and added some stainless steel mesh. Some of my reference pics show this piece as mesh. The PE pedals will be visible through it.

The front suspension has also been added. Whoo-Hooo I'm up to step 7 out of 33.

Here's the pics

I'm starting to see a car come together finally.
I decided to add a bit more carbon fiber decals in the highly visible areas like the engine bay, and door openings. I was not going to get this detailed when I began, but I know I'll regret not taking the time to do it now.

The front end has been completed, as well as the interior, and most of the engine bay/rear suspension.

The gauge pod was painted in aluminum just to be a bit different.

Yup, and those are Standard factory colors, in fact, the Enzo can come in any color you want... a guy ordered one with only the virgin Carbon Fiber body, not a once of paint on it (no paint at all)... it's already a highly collectionable item so imagine "the 1" with only CF... 1 out of 399 !!!

Hey matt, I love what you're doing to it!

and I wanted to ask you, I hope it hasn't been asked to you before, but in your opinion, is the difference in price worth buying the tamiya, if you could have two revell's for the same amount?

I m just curious, as it struck me your revell car also had a fair amount of detail?

Keep up the cleanlyness, mr clean
