Why do Eclipse drivers bug Mustangs?

I don't know about you guys but when I take my dad's 90 5.0 out to cruise on a Friday or Saturday night ricers seem to swarm and bug me. They pull up beside me and rev their engine up wanting to race and when I launch off the line and pull a good length on them they back down and act like they didn't want to race. Later on though they'll pass me doing 60 in like a 35 yelling (nothing nice) and honking at me. Other cars do this but it seems like a good portion of them are ricers. I'm just wondering if you guys have the same problem, and why it's the ricer drivers.

I was just driving and this Honda Pilot wanted to race me, but I didn't feel like it (Its a Pilot for crying out loud!!!). The guy launches off the line and gives the thing all its got, I just took off normally. He then gives me dirty, cocky smiles when I pull up beside him again, looking at the 5.0 like its a POS.

(I changed from "eclipses" to "ricers" because thinking about it I take back what I said. Eclipses do bother me but they fall in with the whole ricer crowd, which is much, much bigger.)

i dunno. I like eclipses.

Maybe the guys with GS, and GT's think they have a GSX. (Rember..GSX: Turbocharged 4G63 and AWD)

You want the short answer or the long answer. The short answer is that there morons.

The long answer, its not just mustangs that they bug. They bug everyone with an american V8. Why, well they feel that they have a need to prove themselves. They would love to run back to there friends and tell them how they just beat up on a Mustang GT or a Camaro SS. Unfortunately for them this rarely ever happens. So everytime they bolt on a go fast goodie, put on a new decal or add a new guage, its go find an american muscle car to screw with. That brings us to the next topic.

CAN A RICE ROCKET ACTUALLY CHALLANGE AND BEAT AN AMERICAN MUSCLE CAR.

Of course i've seen civics and neons on HP TV (channel 325 for those of you with Direct TV satellite) running 9's. Pretty damn unbelievable if you ask me. The problem is the money you have to put into those damn things far exceeds what the car is worth sometimes 2-3 times. You see first you have to be able to run with a V8, thats the first hurdle and that aint easy. Next you have to dump more money to try to outrun it, thats way expensive. Most of the guys trying to race you don't have anywhere near the money to do that. Possible, yes but its way easier with a sponsor. You could just buy a V8 and be ahead of the game from the jump. :biggrin:

Yup its true every eclipse driver thinks there tought. My friends wants 2 race my dads 87 5.0 lol. He talks 2 much Sh**. We went racing once with his Gs-T and he lost 2 a 90 5.0 and he didnt lose he got burn hardcore lol. Well not every eclipse driver half of my friends have eclipse and there cool with mustangs.

I don't have any that bother me.....

The biggest problem I have is usually with the soccer moms with the minivans. When I stop at redlights they always want to go! :p

odd this topic arised. just today on my way to a dr appt, im drivin like 60 in a 55 and this blue eclipse gt in my rear view comes plowin and weavin through traffic and flies by my going at least 75....so of course i slammed it back into 4th then 5th, got up to 90 easy and flew by him and it was over after that...2 min later saw him at a light and he was givin me the dirtiest look and his gf in the passenger seat was lookin over at me and smilin. chicks love muscle...cars. i have no muscle so i bought a mustang to make up for it. lol

There are lots of fast eclipses out there, don't judge them all because you run into a few ricers with GS'es that are slow. My brothers car has gone 11.45 @ 123 pump gas, REAL 18" radial tires (not drag radials), full weight 1G with a 2.3L stroker and an FP3065. The AWD is pure sickness off the line.

yeah. The DSM cars are quick, except the 95+ which are prone to crank walk. :lol:

Damn crankwalk, that's why you buy gen 1 DSMs, they are lighter and have less problems :)

yesterday i had this gs-t right in front of me and he was at a stop and fortunately i got the green just b4 i stopped and passed him up quick and a couple of seconds later he shows up right next to me revving his lil 4 banger at me and i didnt want to even bother with him. Imports are USUALLY a waste of time. There are some exceptions, ya know, the ones who put over 6 grand into their car. I respect most of em but some of them are just plain cocky.

crank walk is when your crankshaft moves too far forwards or backwards (or left/right in a front wheel drive car). it causes problems with bottom end alignment and can cause bearing failure and other such problems.

Actually starting in late 92 they had the 7-bolt "crankwalk" motors. Although I put over 75 thousand hard miles on my 98 eclipse, and never even saw a hint of said crankwalk which ,according to most people who have never owned a DSM, is mandatory.

whne i had my eagle talon tsi i raced alot. be honest with you, i beat just about every ricer out there. im not sticking up for imports, i hate them, they mess with my mustang all the time. but when i raced, i won alot so it swelled my head. i never raced a mustang with always wanted to. but like i was saying, my head was swelled and i messed with a camaro, it blew me away. shortly after that my trans went and i bough a new mustang.

i thought that eclipse were crap boxes until one of my buddies let me drive his 94 gsx and i was amazed so i bought one and so far the car still amazes me

How do you know? Everytime we start talking 1/4 mile times here you come with this story about how us mustang guys will get killed in the corners. Have you personnally seen the two of these cars go at it in a road course? Have you seen a mustang with a full suspension upgrade take a road course? What makes you so sure mustangs would get killed on a road course? I for the life of me don't even understand why you even bother to post here. thats stupid as hell thats like me saying have you seen a DSM with a full motor build make a 1/4 run?

stock vs stock the dsm handles better PERIOD you wanna talk upgrades fine, but teh GSX will still have teh AWD advantake, and ther is a HUGE market for their suspentions as well.

a GSX will pull in the .85-.87 range and a GT will pull .79-.81 range (both 98 models) add teh AWD and thats what makes me think a stang would lose on a road course and they can both be made to pull over 1g with upgrades, whats your point?

stock for stock a GSX will win in the corners, and only be about .2 behind the GT, and would be a little bit safer in the rain and snow. Not everyone only cares about the 1/4 when they buy a car.

I was leaving the mall yesterday. Rolled up on a little lexus 300 all tricked out, lowered wing out back fart can muffler guages all over the place. He revved his little heart out. And you know what zx2srdotnet im sure if we had been on a road course he would have had me. But guess what we weren't and I tore his ass up.

when they start putting a 90 degree turn right before the finish line in the quarter mile im in BIG trouble.now i have seen the AWD twin turbe eclipse do pretty good at the track but someone on here said it first you have to put the money in the car to be equal with an eight cylinder . too much money for me to wanna spend on an eclipse

I personaly say everyone gots there own veiws and own likes but fact for fact a mustang is gonna beat a eclipse on the drag strip and from someone who cares about coners i personaly dont know if eclipse handle anybetter they might by alittle bit but also a mustang is rwd inabling u the step the rear at alittle to get the front inline and all the fancy stuff.
a 04 gt auto in mm&ff ran 14.1 which leads me to think a manual can run 14 flat. so thats even more of a time distance then the gsx and the reason the gsx's time is in the 14's is bc its awd so u get a awsome lauch and a low 60 foot time which makes a huge diffence in the 1/4 mile.

Back to the point, ricers have big egos. Its the only reason they show off their cars, for attention and ego-booster. Owning sum1 with a mustang wen they least expect it is much more fun than owning sum1 that you know you'll beat. And watching that look of the eclipse driver after you own his ass is funny too!

it is a ignorant myth that camaro's and stangs can't handle.
but to answe the main question. mustangs and camaro's are the cars to beat. import guys(if they admit it or not) see the AM as the bully, and if you can beat a mustnag or a camaro, then your really doing something.
truth is, if the eclipse has a b/c intake and exhaust, and happens to come across a stock stang gt, then he most def has a chance.
you guys don't have to prove anything, everyone knows mustangs are fast, but to the import guys, some of them feel they have to prove something.

dudes dont let a few fucking rice burners think bad about DSMs....and i have driven a mustng cobra 2000 and it was fast, but not what i was looking for especially in the price range....I rather save the extra 5000 and put into a car that has just as much potential....but dont get me wrong man i would own a mustang, id just choose a DSM because of personal preference!

I can say having owned a 91 laser AWD turbo, an 88 5.0, a 90 5.0, and now a 2000 4.6, I would never go back to the DSM. I loved my little laser, fun to drive, but never will I have to money to make it hang with the real cars (american muscle). And we have a term for the little stunt they pull in their 4 bangers. When they lose by several car lengths in between stop lights, then top their car out (read: 87 mph) to pass you when you've slowed back to the 25 mph speed limit, you've just been the victim of a "Ricer Flyby" and I'm sure if you ask said pilot, he'll tell you that he spanked your puny V8.

crank walk dose not happen to every 95+ dsm.
and not just dsm, it happens to alot of cars.
and dsm and dang fast, the awd gsx/tsi can kick some ass off the line and hit like 140-160 give or take.
dont get me wrong I love cameros, but dsm do not get half the respec that they should. just my 2 cents

Okay, Just my imput here about ricers. I hear about them all damn day long. My friend from college owns a 91 MR2. I know the mods he as done to it. And for the money he has put into it, it is pretty damn fast. I am not saying I said with him, bcause he dawgs on the Mustangs all day long, but has the utmost respect for the camaros. I do not get that......I dislike the camaros because I owned an 85 and it was pure crap. I wish that I could afford a bigger engine for my car, but I can't while paying for school. Now I will say I have a small 2.3L engine in my Mustangand quite amazingly I beat a few stock 4.6L Mustangs. I know that those engines were crap duing certain years, so I doubt it counts
