91 3.0 hard to start at times

Hi all, I just got done replacing the head gaskets on my 91 4runner, also had a head job done on my 3vz. I made sure the timing was aligned at 0 on the balancer, and marks on cams were aligned. Turned motor over twice and rechecked all fine. Now to the problem, after I got it backed together the motor at times seems like it almost catches, like it is out of time. I alligned up to the closet of my abilty the rotor to the #1 plug. Motor seems to run fairly well, somewhat of a skiff, but I had to move the distruibtor all the way forward (mark all the way to the front of vehicle) Its almost as if the battery is dead but I checked the cells and it checked ok on the hydrometer. Also starter is new.

Any help would be greatly appriciated. Thanks ahead of time.

The only thing I can think of is that you didn't recheck the cam timing after you rotated the engine and it's really one tooth off on one or both cams. I would take it apart far enough to recheck the timing marks on the cams and the crank. This is assuming you got the ignition timing correct.
