A few questions

Hi all
I have a Alero 2000 GL 3.4 got the car about a 2 months ago.
I have 2 questions
1. I got this knock in the steering, when you move the steering wheel to the left and right a little you hear this knocking both while the car is in natural or in drive. When i picked up the car i mentioned it to the service guy and he said its a comment thing in a gm car. I found this forum and want to ask if this is true.
2. When i start the engine the rpm moves up and down from 1000 to 750 rpm and you can hear the engine like choking or something. What could be the problem. I just changed my spark plugs with Bosch +4 and air filter with k&n air filter. And also checked the PCV valve and its fine.
