A few others have commented to me about the chrome rims. They are starting to corrode a bit. I used to really like the way they looked, but now may replace them.
Can you make a recommendation or two for me, and include pix if you have time
thx..slag..

Mark: Is yours a 99 and do you have the 5.7 lit, 530 hp engine? If so, have you had any issues with the engine?

Mark: I have a 99 Sv and find that the accelleraton is not as great as the numbers would suggest. LAmbo says 3.8 to 60. I never do a standing start run as I am careful with the clutch but, in accellerating from 30 mph I just do not sense that strong pull that 455lbs/ft of torque should produce with a 3400 lb car. A friend of mine told me I am using the wrong gears and because the gear ratio's in the Lambo are sooo long I need to be in first, not second at 30mph to get the best acceleration. What do you think? BTW, my 04 MB SL600 with 590lbs/trq feels like it would just walk away from the Lambo. I am still new to the car and need to drive it some more.

Wings, just go out and try this experiment. Go in 1st gear, get up to 30mph, hold it for a second, then nail the throttle to the floor. Then tell me what you think. In your benz, the car is an autobox, it automatically downshifts for you. The DIablo cant do this for you when you are in the wrong gear.

Right now I am dodging hurricane Francis but as soon as I get back I will try what you recommened Allan. I would expect that the performace will be better. Still would like to hear form Mark with his opinion.

wings700, you should definitely be in first, it's good to about 60 at redline, and should pin you in the seat.
diabloGt, More than happy to show you the car, I try to get out every chance I get, but it's tough with work. Sept 19, there is a show at Harvard Vanguard in West Roxbury supporting the local YMCA, I plan to be there, try to make it. Where in Boston are you?

I am happy with the performance, I've had a lot of fast cars in the past, my last was a Ferrari 355, thare is no comparison in performance. In the early eighties I was into building chevy big blocks, that was the last car that had the same acceleration as the diablo. My rear cats & muffler are bypassed, air boxes are opened up, & the car has the SV gearing.

Mark: When you say, "SV Gearing" are you referring to the final drive rato ( I cannot remember if your car is 2 or 4 wheel drive) or are you referring to the transmission gear ratio's. Did not know that there was an option for selecting gears when the original buyer ordered the car. I am going to check the Lambo web site for the specs. Thanks for the reply!

Mine is #4/10 I've had no problems with the engine. As for the year. These are technically 99's but my understanding is that they weren't available until March/April 2000.
As for the rims..I'm open to suggestions as long as they are the same size I have now. Money isn't much of an object for them unless I think they are very overpriced.
Thx Slag

With this lower gear I would expect the SV to accellerate quicker than a Diablo Vt especially taking into account the SV wieghs about 200 lbs less. Interestingly they show the weight of your Roadstar the same as a VT. I would have thought the Roadster would have been a little heavier?
Mark M
09-10-2004, 10:32 AM
I'll check my owners manual when I get home tonight, see if the specs are the same as the site.
My roadster is a VT, weight should be close to a hardtop. There probably is more structural stiffness built in, but the roof is carbon fiber, very light, it may offset the gain. A SV should definitely be lighter

Here are specs from my 1999 owners manual:
top Speed 335 Km/h
0 to 1 Km VT: 20.73 sec, SV 21.23 sec
weight: VT: 1695 kg, roadster: 1695 kg, SV: 1600 kg
interesting, the VT is quicker, the added traction with awd offsets the SV weight savings, plus some.

for the pics, use photobucket, they will be automatically re-sized, and just post the links.
For the video's, make them sorta small sized (10mb per minute sounds good), and I would use lycos.co.uk for space (they're shit, but give 50mb!)
