I was just wondering if anyone had any information on superchargers that r applicable with my 92 Dode Stealth R/T DOHC non-turbo, or the turbocharger application?

Hey, I have a 92 ES, which is the same powertrain (222HP DOHC) with a less intimidating body style. I've had the same question for a while, but apperently there is a few aftermarket turbo and superchargers out there...if you're willing to pay for them.

As with any car that is not already turbo charged you will need to do a lot of work as in about 5-7 grand to turbochage it, that is if you want to run over 6 pounds of boost.

Ah, Polygon- I beg to differ. With the utmost respect of course:)
I've heard that the Engine blocks, crankshafts, heads, pistons, etc., etc. are the same between the three engine types- the parts used in the turbo model are the same as the parts used for the non turbos...so logically, my ES's DOHC Non-turbo engine should be able to handle about 290 horse...???
Now, I'm NOT saying that the car will definately take it- You'll still want to have the suspension and drivetrain checked...and also, the Turbo models have a Getrag 6 speed, while the ES and Base models have an inferior (but still fully capable) 5 speed. Those are the areas you'd want to worry about.

An afterthought- what about the Superchargers off of a 3.1 Buick? say...park avenue?

I have been trying to do the same thing. i have a 92 stealth es. it's fast, but i wannt make it really fast. i have been looking for a turbo kit for it. i would actually prefer to get supercharger for it but i don't know where to go for that. if you guys figure it out i would love some feedback. the only thing i have seen was the e-ram. but that thing is supposed to suck.

OK- here's the deal! :)
The Allpar 3.0 L page (dedicated to Chrysler/Mitsu 3.0) outright states that most of the Pieces of our Stealth/3KGT engines are the same between all three models- Base, ES, and RT-TT.
Also- Check out Knight Superchargers in Florida for Superchargers for Stealths. He has Vortech and Powerdyne available, as well as a few others, for around 4 grand.

Looking for Stealth/GT supercharger?
Check out gtpro.com
They sell a supercharger that will add about 100hp.....
if you've got 4K

Those are the areas you'd want to worry about. the pistons in the tt are 8:1 while the pistons in the non turbos are 10:1. but the single ohc are 9.5:1 and are not compatable with the dohc. with a 10:1 compression ratio 5 psi would be equal to the stock boost of 8-9 psi. but if you do the conversion its quit a bit faster than the awd models due to a MUCH lighter car. just get some extra sticky tires on the front, i recomend dunlop fm901's. and watch the power steer, which a good posi or aftermarket limited slip will tack care of .things to change or install, intercoolers, oil cooler, ecu, some wiring, turbos of course, thermostat housing, coolant lines to and from turbos, oil lines to and from turbos, manifolds, recomend going to the turbo radiator they are about twice as thick, cams are different to but the non turbo have a higher lift keep them, all piping i think that covers it give or take. thanks chaz

Well if that is the case, then you shouldn't have a problem, but as Gigylow said you will trade the pistons for lower compression ones.

That red stealth looks bad.

you can stay with the 10:1 na compression and safely run 5 pounds on stock internals, assuming you have a 94+ engine. i believe 91-93 have a cast crank, whereas in 94 all 6g72 engines (turbo and non) have a forged crank. other than that, you are good to go. it is def possible for 4 grand, perhaps a bit less, assuming you're doing the labor of course ;)
safe travels.

also the na 5 spd trans is rated at around 300 fl-lbs if memory serves, with the differential being the weak link. upgrade the diff and your suspension and drive line will be fine.
as a note, you might want to upgrade your brakes, however... i'm sure you'll need em :D
also, don't change the cams. the na cams are slightly more aggressive than the tt ones. some have theorized that the na cams would benefit the tt, but i don't believe this has been tested.

You guys can go to www.3Si.org and find all the information you want. The most common routes are either a twin turbo swap (can be done for dirt cheap ie: under $2k, depending on how well you can shop for used parts and if you can do some work yourself-one guy did his for like $400 and some change), a single turbo setup (not as popular and I'm not sure of prices) or a supercharger (anywhere from $2.5K-$4K)
As far as the supercharger goes, Knight Turbos makes one, GTPro makes one and RIPP Mods makes one. The best, from everything I've seen is RIPP's. Although as of right now he only has a sohc kit ready but it getting ready to start on the dohc kit and if he finishes it as fast as he did the sohc one it will be done in about 3 months. They all say they will work on stock engines and if you go to the above site you'll see that lots of people say that the engines can handle hp up to stupid levels without much reinforcement but alot of the problems come from the tranny (specifically the differential, like someone already said).
gigylow, I just gotta ask....what's up with the weird hood blisters and come on man, that wing? Oh well, it's your car.
