Engine Fan Over-ride Switch

In my opinion the engine runs way too hot before the fans turn on. When stuck in traffic I've resorted to turning on the heater to keep the engine temp at midpoint.

Has anyone tried to energize the fans via a manual switch? If so did you bypass the fan relays, or energize the relays via the manual switch?
