Have dealt with an ongoing problems with a 1988 olds cutlass Supreme. The battery just dies. Have checked all light bulbs (if on), Alternator seems O.K., Radio off, etc. and actually had the local olds dealer disconnect the door key light, because it seemed to be staying on, and drawing 2 amps. They also could find no other source of the battery drain. After the key light disconnect, the battery has stayed charged for the past 4-6 months and the problem seemed to be fixed. Now just replaced the battery again thinking it couldn't be the same problem, but sure as poo-poo, the battery is being drained from somewhere. If you jump the car, it will usually start again for a while. Any other ideas or suggestions?? (short of a high cliff and rocky bottom)

My cutlass had that same exact problem, so i replaced the battery and alternater thinkin that would fix it, but it didnt, there were no shorts anywere either, the car started fine after you gave it a jump or charged the battery but you couldnt shut it off and turn it on right away because the battery would die. So i changed that starter and it has started great ever since.

If the starter isn't the problem, this is going to sound insane, but i'll explain. It's 10 years since I really didn't much work on cars so bear with me. Old antifreeze can sometimes cause electrolis if I remember correctly. Some how old antifreeze can cause a current to run through the battery, I don't know how so don't ask. But to check it take a volt meter ground the negitive side to the battery and stick the positive in antifreeze in the radiator not the overflow tank. If no voltage, then stick the positive side to the positive on the battery and the negitive in the radiator water. It should be a small amount of voltage like 1.5 volts if I remembered how to test it correctly. If it tests 12+ volts , then I forgot how to test it properly. If you get a small voltage flush the old antifreeze and that should cure it. At least if you have a volt or multi meter the test is free, and it may save you the expense of a starter and have that not be the problem. I told you it sounds crazy, but I am serious. Good Luck!

Check the glove box lamp switch... if its broken, the glove box lamp will always be on. In this type of issue that I have seen, it will take the battery about a week to completely die on you.
actually, there are 2 other switches that can get you too, that would be the engine hood switch ( that turns on the lamp over the engine compartment when you open the hood) and the truck lamp switch.
I would check these first
good luck!

It turns out it was some switch/relay in the doors that had something to do with the seatbelt system, "if so equiped". These were disabled as they were "sticking" for less of a better explanation, thus drawing from the battery. No problems since. God I wish I still owned my 72 Chevelle!! Thanks for the replys guys.
