I can anser one small bit of your query...as far as getting out the original shriveled black inserts is concerned, you can burn/heat them and then just flake them away (read it somewhere).

The front mount doesnt get removed, the inserts fit into the stock mount. Same for the rear mount on a 2g. The side mounts are replacements and any machine shop can press the stockers out, cost me about 10 bucks. Beats lighting your ass on fire and burning the garage down. The new ones will just press with a vise. On a 1g the rear mount is also a full replacement.
This info is for Prothanes, it may vary somewhat with different brands, mainly the 1g vs 2g stuff. If you have replacement mounts for a 2g front mount, then ignore ths message ;)

If they are the molded inserts, just slap them on thier respective mounts and reinstall the mount/crossmember. If its the side ones get them pressed out by a shop, then use a vice to install the new full replacements.
