I don't know if this was done recently or ever. I couldn't search for it so I thought I'd ask here.

What gas mileage are you getting from your 4.6L automatic bird?
Please specify the year, city or highway driving, elevation you live in. etc.
Do you use 87, 89 or 92 octane gas?
Any and all additional info would be great.

I have a 91 with a 5.0L H.O. and I'm concidering selling it to upgrade to a 97 with 4.6L. I want to know the mileage expectations ahead of time.

Thanks.

I have a 96 4.6 with roughly 109k miles on it. And, if you combine city, highway(not alot of that in my driving...), and my lead foot, you get about 14mpg..... On middle grade fuel... If I'm easy on it, I can get around 20-22mpg, and on long trips I've even recorded 26-28 mpg. I guess it all depends on your driving style, not so much the city/highway driving you do. And yes, all of this was done with the AC on. ;)

My results were similar to Fibori when I had my '95.

My results were also similar to fibori, but I also noticed that when i had an aftermarket intake put on i got better gas mileage, I have a 97' 4.6 LX by the way, the gas milage is good stock but you know it is a V8 so no matter what you do your still gonna pay out your ass for gas especially with VA and D.C prices... $1.9 a gallon for 87 Octane gas... ya

It is decent when I keep my foot out of the floor, but I don't think I can!

highway probably around 25 mpg
city probably 12 mpg (heavy foot)

I use 83 (Except last time I accedently put in 87). I clocked 200 miles, and burned a little less then 3/4 of a tank. Not bad, considering my heavy right foot.

(VERY SIMPLE) look forget about 15 mpg or 17,18 mpg ,if you drive that car normally half on the st,and the other on the freeway you are going to get 250 to 275 mile per tank on a stock 15 gallon tank.I've had my t bird since 1997 and counted the miles many times on 87 octane.

I got a 95 4.6, i use 93 octane and i get decent gas mileage, except the fact i was used to driving 4 cyl's all my life. Oh, forgot to mention, i have a 60lbs sealed sub box in the trunk, which holds 2 12's and a mono amp-THAT made a big differance. I do get better traction though :-)

Miracle of miracles... I got 355 miles to a full tank of 87!! Woo hoo. That's exciting! Mind you, I was following a tour bus for two hours on the free-way...*eyeshifts* But I guess if you catch a good draft you could reach 30mpg...
