Engine swap or turbo kit??

Now my friend kind of forced his opinion of me telling me I should get a turbo instead of engine swapping.

I was thinking if its possible to put in a 3sgte engine and work from there but he tells me a turbo would produce more than an engine swap.

Now I can't seem to find any turbo kits for a 7th gen celica GT except for the XS engineering and that is advertised for the GT-S and cost over $4000.

First off I need to know whats the better thing to do to get more horsepower. If 3sgte is a good choice then are there many parts out there to get it powerful? I mean like maybe 500 HP power.

3sgte is good for about 400Hp on stock internls... do u have a gt or gts? if u have a gt....swap a gts motor in dont put an all track it would be way too complicated, if u have a gts, stick with the motor, 2zzge kicks ass.... if you do have a gt....sell it and buy a gts

I orginally planned to look for a GT-S but it's kind of hard to find one while I've found an all trac engine already. I think I'll just wait awhile until the 7th generation becomes older and mebe I can hope to find a salvaged one.

oooh turbo it, i dont know much about the 7th gen but i would turbo it. and i think it would be a lil easier than swapping a 3sgte in it

haha this KID dosent know what hes talking about, dont turbo ur 1zzfe..too high compression, plus its an f head (f head is clsoe cams that are stricly for early tourqe and hp, dosent have shit after 4000RPM) just do the 2zzge swap, and mabe think about the 3sgte, itll b alot harder to do the 3sgte swap, as well as more expensive

"...too high compression"

wait what does that exactly mean sicne I've been told that the 1zzfe is better for turboo than a 2zzge since it has a lower compression ratio, unless im misunderstanding or I haven't been told something please explain?

the 2zzge engine does fit in the 3rd gen mr2... many people have done this swap and it can be done for under $4,000 due to the use of the same motor mounts.... from what i hear it is a very basic swap... and if u think about it... when ur done u pretty much end up with a lotus elise with ~200 more lbs... which isnt a whole bunch

ghettoazns right, the 1zzfe blows ass, turbo or not its inferior to the 2zzge

yea, but how much do you think this guy is going to spend? Swap a 2ZZ and he'll probably spend the same amount if he turboed a 1ZZ, and he can get more than 180 hp if he turbos the 1ZZ. The 2ZZ has that extra lift, it's going to make it more difficult to manage the fuel if it's turbo. 2ZZs are better N/A. Great engines don't get me wrong, just saying that if he has a GT it's probably easier and less hassle to turbo the 1ZZ instead of doing the swap, the only thing I'd swap later on is the 6 speed from the GT-S (after he messes up his 5 speed, j/k :p ).

And the 3S-GTE, do you know if it will fit? My friend wants to swap a 3S-GE (from a RS200) into a 7th gen, but it looks like it will take a lot of money to get it in there. Worth it? I don't know cuz correct me if I'm wrong but isn't the 3S a cast iron block and the 1ZZ/2ZZ aluminum? There should be a bit difference in weight right? And being a FWD car with probably 60/40 wieght ratio, isn't the understeering going to be a bitch? But then again if this is for the straights I guess it doesn't matter.

3sgte into a 7th gen is way too much work imo... if your going to drag and u want a 3sgte then get an mr2 or alltrac since when u drag u are most likely going to be pulling the engine out to do mods anyways so miles arent that big of an issue

i highly doubt this guy is going to do some serious drag racing.

well it all depends on if you want all motor or turbo...u weant all motor...go with 2zz...if you want turbo go with the 1zzfe....and if you dont awanna go through the hassle of an engine swa[p...stick with the 1zzfe
