99 Accord engine check light

Hello everyone I recently bought my 99' accord and the next day the engine check light turned on, I believe its the light above the battery light. Anyways I just got the engine oil changed and one of the mechanics said there was a small oil leak and that the light could mean that anything is wrong with the engine (not sounding too good at that point). Well when I returned to home I popped the hood and only to see that the back of the engine where the intake manifold is had steam coming out and lots of it. I don't know whats going on, maybe if anyone of you guys had this kind of problem you can help steer me in the right direction to find out whats happening. Thanks.

that mechanic is pretty vague about his answer. i don't see why he didn't diagnose it the w/ a scan tool. i know that if you have a v6 that there is a egr issue that honda recalled. that egr issue would trigger a light. but w/out a trouble code it's hard to point you in the right direction. take it to a local autozone...i believe they can pull the code(s) for you...and i think it's free. about the steam...have you notice it doing that before the oil change. if not...then the mechanic might have just spilled some oil on the engine...and it's just smoking from the heat of driving from the garage to home. see if you can see any trace of oil...if there is...just clean it off w/ some engine degreaser.
