warming up...

Today when i started my car up, and headed for school, i noticed when i went to shift it would shake like crazy.. Then after a couple of blocks it stopped.. Should i start letting the car warm up a little bit, cause it is cold as shit here in the mornings...

you should always let your car warm up. there are alot of little parts that need to be lubed before you start using the gas pedal.

there is nothing funnier than someone first starting their car up in the morning and jamming the gas pedal thinking it will warm the car up faster.. yes it will warm up but it also damages the engine because oil isnt where it is supposed to be yet.

"warming up" a car is a term meaning letting the oil get to where it needs too. most people dont understand that and that is why they have mechanical breakdowns on their cars.

just start your car and dont rev it up at all. let it warm up until it gets to at least its normal idle. more wont hurt either.

if its a manual you should disable your clutch safty switch. look around the forums.

And i Live in Rocklin, CA its like 60 degrees in the morning, and 103 by mid day.

yep....even when i havent driven the car for like 20 min...i still let that sucker warm up for a few seconds....but yea when you dont worm up the car and you gun the shit out of it, expect some serious shit to got wrong with your car...also you wont just be experiencing turbo lag, but just engine lag becuase its not performing the way it is supposed to

yea the video actually made it harder to see what it was for me. look for a big white "plug" with a green adn black wire going into it.

isnt the maint thing you let your car warm up fully . To let the oil warm up so it can turn more liquidy so it can lubricate better. Cause when you turn your car on most of the parts get lubricated after a couple seconds the problem is the oil is thick and wont do a good job so your basicly just doing it to let the oil become more runny thats why you always drive your car around the block before an oil change so it can warm up a little so the oil runs out better.

hmm when it was shaking did you by any chance have it at a low RPM like at 2000 and under and just holding the peddle a bit? Cause mine does that too for some reason i think there might be something wrong with the clutch fluid also gear box oil? hmm not sure. And then when it warms up and circulates a bit it stops shaking that would be my guess oh well im doing my gear box oil(manual tranny fluid) on monday so i hope that helps.

DOnt forget that the internals also expand as they get heated, changing the tolerances everywhere. Things are pretty loose when the motor is cold. In fact, thats why compression tests come out better when the motor is warm, and thats how you are supposed to do the test ;)
