front seat problem 525i

I have 1990 bmw 525i and the seat has been let back, the problem is that when you go to put it up only one side will come up. Is there two moters with one not working or is this another problem. Please help?

by "putting it up" do you mean lifting the part where your back rests or where your butt rests?

If it is the part where your back rests then there is only one motor controlling two rolling arms which work in conjunction with one another. If only one side lifts up then one of the arms are either broken or disengaged.

Hey Greg, I have a 1989 525i and the same thing happened to both my front seats. Hopefully, you have found out by now, but I took mine in and the mechanic said this is a common problem and that there is a cable problem. BMW apparently offers a cable modification kit that can fix the issue. Had to have the seats taken out and the cable mod installed. My mechanic charged me $120.00 per seat and mine now work great.
