Turn Signal

I believe I have a bad multifunction switch, but I wanted to find out if anyone else has run into this problem, or may have some ideas to fix it. In order for me to use the turn signal (either direction), I must use it like I am making a complete turn, even when I am changing lanes. There is a position that I can move the stalk into where I thought it would turn the signal on (to signal a lane change) until I release it, but that does not seem to work. Every other function on the stalk works, and my turn signals work after the "click" position, and my hazzards work. Any ideas?

For what it's worth, my lane change switch has never worked since I bought the car last year. But everything else works OK, so I just have to click it on and then click it off like you do.
That's a lot cheaper than replacing the whole switch.
If anyone has a cheap cure that would be great.
