2000 MIllenia 2.5L (knock sensor)

Hi,

I've read this forum about the Millenia 2.5 LIter engine and have come to the conclusion that it is most likely a good engine (when it is tuned properly) - but getting it properly tuned is a challenge for even the trained Mazda mechanics.

I too was getting check engine codes and I went to Autozone I was getting p300 codes (misfires), knock sensor for bank 1.

So I replaced the spark plugs/wires, dist cap and rotor. I also use high octane gas which seems to help.

The check engine light goes on and off still. I still get the knock sensor code. I purchased the knock sensor and want to replace it - but I can't find where it is in the engine compartment.

Can anyone tell me where to look? I would have bought a manual on this by now, but there doesn't seem to be one available (by Chiltons or at the autopart stores). Seems crazy to me.

But, could someone give me a description of where to look for the knock sensor, bank 1 and bank 2?

Cheers,

Mike

I have a 97 Probe GT with the 2.5 V6 (same as 626 and MX-6) and the knnock sensor is located on top of the block under the intake manifold. I'm not positive if it's in the same place on your car but it should be. Hope that helps.

PS: Buy a manual for a 626 the same year as your car.

Cool -

I'll check it out and also get a 626 manual.

The knock sensor on the 2.5L Millenia is located directly under the intake manifold. The manifold must be removed to properly replace the sensor. Knock sensor circuit malfunctions are one of the very few common problem with this engine. Mazda has updated the part, which now includes a harness adapter. I should also suggest new intake gaskets when replacing this sensor.
Expect to pay 3-4 hours labor if your car is out of warranty.
hope that helps.

I have a 99 Mazda Millenia S and my Engine light is on. When I pull out and put back the room fuse - it temp. goes away.

I was hoping for some common problems that would cause this light to come on so i am prepared when i go to mechanic.

Please Help

What performance issues are you experiencing with this problem, ignoring the annoying light of course.
