I have a 1998 silverado 4x4 350 vortec the truck since I have had it has worked very well ! The engine pulls really well and has no noise with 138000 miles on it .On friday I had a 2 hr run and the thing worked like a top but yesterday it started working ok then I stopped at a store and when I left I noticed that it didn't pick up like it should but I was babying it as I was behind a bunch of othe traffic but every time I stepped on it it bogged out like it's plug wires were all no good or something especially when it came under load .After a while I stopped to see if I could see any thing and when I got back in the truck it stalled .I started it back up and it started right up but I couldn't really load it up but I got it back on the highway and got it up to speed and it drove on cruise for about 20 miles then I came to a big hill and it bogged down bad kicked off the cruise and I had to pull over .Started it a couple of minutes later and it started and had no power drove along the side of the road and it came back enough for me to get it back up to speed for another 5 miles then it died again and seemed to shut down same thing after awhile it started and I was able to get it going no more hills so I got most of the way home on the highway on cruise but I had to leave again It worked ok but not like it usually does for 10 miles then it cut out again I pulled over shut it off then started it 30 sec later started right up and pealed away like there was never a problem then started acting up again finally got it home again .This morning I started it and it ran like there was never a problem. There are no codes there is no noises from the engine it idles good .Sorry for the lenght I just wanted you to know so that you may have a better idea and be able to help me thanks!

How do you know there were no codes? Did you hook a scan tool up to the obd2 port? Did you fill your tank up just before any of this happened?

I just joined after this form help me with my 1998 silverado starting problems. I think your problem could be a catalitic converter, I had similar problems with a 1988 ford lariat. I lost power up hills, would stall and startup with no problems, all that your explaining. I know this is not a ford form piece of junk is gone now. I thought it was a transmission problem because it seemed like it was slipping but it was the bogging feeling. The transmission shop told me it was the converter and that was the problem. Hope this helps at least its free to get a converter check.

My burb was doing that. Have somebody check your coil and coil wire. Sounds like its only doing it when its warm?

My truck did something like what you described and turned out ot be the fuel pump. You need to check the pressure from fuel pump.

easiest thing first--change fuel filter ---then look at cat converter----pressure test before and after cat.

Hi,
My truck has lost a few fuel pumps and the pressure is a good thing to check. Be sure to watch the gauge after you cut power to the pump.
My last failure was the check valve in the pump failed to hold pressure, and it was as you described.
