I just bought an 89 comaro for 250 bucks. It only has 66,000 original. I cant wait to rip it apart and make it move, its a 305 which is why this forum is up. I have never worked with one. I dont know what i should do first to start pulling power out of it. Any tips or advice would be greatly appreciated. I have 6 years of working in the automotive industry so i hope i can handle anything you could give me.
Also, can i get a lot of power out of it and still have it be legal for the street or should i just swap out and not waste my time trying
thanks guys

TPI is a good setup, definately good for a first project, there are alot of things to do with it... now you said you wanted to get her moving... do you mean that its not running and u need tips on how to get it to start? or are you asking about performance recommendations?

i would do away with the 305 if you plain on throwing money at it for speed... do a 350 or something bigger... i mean even drvngstorm05 has a project lt1 coming soon...

Welcome to the forum
If you've got 6 years in auto experience, we should be asking you! lol.. But anyways.. To answer your question Yes, you can get a lot of power out of the 305 and still be street legal, However, if you are mechanically inclined, Ide say swap out the 305 for a 350.. Its a much better platform to begin with and its easier to get a lot of power out of..
If you wanna keep your 305, how much power do you want to make with it? You wont get far before having to open it up but start with the basics..
air intake, twin 58mm throttlebody, Hypertech chip, edelbrock TES headers with a full 3" exhaust and performance muffler (Borla, MagnaFlow, Flowmaster) Get some decent plugs (delco rapidfire?) with MSD superconductor wires (Nology HotWires if you have the $$$), MSD blaster coil, and MSD ignition..
If thats not enough, Heads, Intake manifold, and cam, Flat top pistons, etc, etc
Good luck with your project!
BTW how did you get it so cheap???

i was not saying anything bad about it... but really if you had it all to do again would you throw money at it or just get a ls1 or lt1 from the get go??? me i have built two motors for my car, one 383 lt1 and when it went boom (boom because the oil pump failed at the track) i built another 355 lt1 for it... now i am building a CR-5 427 for this girl, i almost have everything but the block and heads... still thinking about which heads to use... but wish i would have done this from the start and not spent all that money... but then again i did learn alot from doing it all... also on a side note when you start the lt1 project look into the ltcc or delteq opti conversion i promise you will not be sorry about doing that upgrade at all...
