headlight assembly

anyone know how to remove the glass casing from the headlight assembly?

Heat the seal up and pull the headlight apart. I think boostedsypders cardomain site has instuctions on clearing the amber.

what do i use to heat the HL?

your oven at home

1. Preheat the oven to 250-300 degrees Fahrenheit. Take the bulbs out of the assembly before putting it in the oven, just to be safe.

2. Take off all the metal clips that hold the assembly together. I think there were about 5

3. Take the assembly out of the oven after about 5-7 minutes. (its very hot). Take a flat head screwdriver and pry away where the clear plastic meets the gray plastic. You should see grey goo starting to come out. Keep prying all around until you are able to take it off with your hands.

if you want the orange piece removed so you don't have that ugly orange blinker piece, you can take out the 2 screws that hold them in. you can also paint the chrome on the inside to match your car or black to look like 97-99 headlights, or any color you want

5. Put the two assemblies back together into one and then put it back in the oven for the same amount of time at the same temperature. Push the two together as close as you can, then put the metal clips back on and let the assembly sit so the glue can dry.

Thats wierd, I just did the oven headlight thing today. I've done it twice now on my Grand Prix headlights. This time I did it at 200 degrees but since I put silicone caulk all around the lenses after the last oven session, they just wouldn't come apart. I had to take them out and try to pry them apart at least 5 times. WARNING: do not press on the middle of the lense when prying them apart. I did and it indented it slightly. Also, when you put them back together put some extra glue or caulk in between the pieces so it gets a good seal but dont use too much (like i did). One more thing, my headlights use a yellowish brown glue. After doing the oven thing and putting them back together, the glue is all blotchy looking from the outside. If you look at the headlights closely you can see yellow and clear blotches all around the outside of the lense underneath the plastic. But if your glue is clear it shouldn't be a prob.

Cool! so it worked at 200 degrees then. So all i need is some clear glue then im on my way then. Besides the yellow blots around your headlights... it looks fine then.... right?

You take your lights off and they'll never be the same..

Why's that? This isn't some new crazy thing. LOTS of people do it. I had a couple of vfaqs from a sube forum and from many other places. Lots of people with STI's do it to take out the orange or to paint them black. None of these people had any complaints that I heard and with a car like an STI I dont think they'd just be screwin around. I cant speak for eclipse headlights specifically but if you follow the directions in the vfaqs exactly, there shouldn't be any problem.
