Engine Cleaning

I am in the process of buying a 1991 850. The car looks great but the engine could use some cleaning what I would like to know are some good ways to remove the discolortion on the intake runners. I understand this is normal, but I'm sure it can be removed. Thank you for any help.

There are places you can go to for an engine cleaning. Look in the yellow pages.

Tranny oil. Put it on a rag and whipe everything down. Makes it have that greesy new look. Or pay 200$ or around that and get your car detailed.

Careful when cleaning the engine bay in all M70 and S70 engines!!

If you do it yourself or if you pay for someone to do it, cover fusebox and all major electrical components with a plastic bag.

I have been involved in the electrical nightmare from hell after a friend washed (and fried) the electrics in his M70.

And yes, Cosmoline is normal (that yellow stuff that looks like varnish) on your intake manifolds. The dealers were supposed to remove it before sale but most couldn't be bothered. FYI, it was used in the shipping process to protect the intake manifolds from sea-salt. Think about getting it removed with Cosmoline remover. It doesn't do any harm having it there but your intakes look so much better with it off ;) The 'expensive' but best way is to remove the manifolds and have them bead blasted (replace the intake manifolds gaskets while they're off and check Banjo Bolts!!!). Cheap way is Cosmoline remover which can be applied with manifolds in place.
