whaaa!.. my 88 4.0 cyl camry is leaking gas... i dont know what to do.. its leaking gasoline from a hose thats wrapped around with some type of braided cloth... i was going through a 92-95 camry DIY book and saw that same hose and they called it a ventilation return tube or something like... its leaking from the where the clamp and the end of the hose meets the gas tank... anyone with any suggestions please help.. thank you..

Check to see if the clamp is tight. If it isn't, tighten it and see if that fixes the leak. If it is tight, buy a new hose from Toyota and replace the hose.

I have the very same problem this week and the dealer wants to bring the whole tank down, replace the fuel lines, etc, etc. all which would cost me over $1000 dollars. This is some BS!!!

All it took me was $20 dollars for 4 pairs of gear clamps and a foot of fuel line hose from NAPA.

The fuel lines are located underneath the car just below the driver-back passenger side door just before the left hand driver-side tire.

The fuel line end connected to the hose must be rusty and it is leaking gas ever so lightly which is a sign that it would go soon so I took out the hose and the clamps. The one fuel line end broke bcz of the rust and the remaining piece was soldered to a flange which was attached to the gas tank. I ended up cutting the piece of line from the soldered end and inserted the new 1/2" outside diam fuel hose as far back in as possible being careful not to damaged or screw up the fuel line itself. Use 2 gear clamps to tighten it and then connect the other end to the return line and again lock it with 3 gear clamps and now all is well. No leak nor smell at all and cost me only $20 bucks + a lot of nicks and scratches on my hand and fingers for working the clamps in an ever so tight and cramp and small space.
