1994 3000GT SL or 2002 Subaru WRX

I own a 1994 3000GT SL right now that is pearl white, tan leather interior, and it has an intake and exhaust. I might have the oppertunity to get a 2002 Subaru WRX Imperza with all the option that they come with in 2002 and still has warrenty and it is Black or maybe black pearl. Should i go for the WRX or should i keep the 3000GT? I really like the 3000GT but I love WRXs because they are just so damn fast and tight looking but a 3000GT somewhat looks cooler to me. If one of you were able to do this, what would you do?

WRX hands downs! Your SL sounds pretty stock, except for the intake and exhaust. The WRX has a turbo, which can be easily upgraded. Also, the WRX comes with AWD, the trademark of all Subaru vehicles. I've got a friend who has a WRX, he's slapped on a bigger turbo, bigger intercooler, bov, exhaust, and some other stuff. The AWD is just like the VR4 (except i'm unsure if the WRX has 4-wheel-steering like the VR4). His WRX handles like a beast!...takin corners at about 30-40mph.
However, the obvious questions would be:
What's the condition of the WRX? Mileage? Accidents? Maintenance done? etc, etc. DO check in on that stuff.
Oh, and one more thing, the timing belt on the WRX is probably a lot easier to change than that of the 3000.

the WRX will have better performance than the N/A 3000gt, but not quite of a VR-4. As for speed, the STi and the VR-4 are close, its all down to who can launch the best and who can shift the fastest, until 100 mph when the vr-4 will take over due to gearing. There was a post on 3SI about vr-4 vs. STi, the VR-4 got the jump on the launch due to a better driver, kept 1 car length ahead up to about 90 and then walked away, so those two would be very close.

Yeah, since you don't have a VR4, I'd probably consider the WRX. Those Subarus are pretty nice looking too so you know....power and looks--dangerous combo. :) But yeah, I still love the GTs but in this case, it's gonna be a hard decision. Definitely do a background check though. Good luck.

I'd get the WRX as long as it's a clean title and a reasonable price based on the condition of the car. The WRX handles much better than the 3000GT SL, not only because it's AWD, but because it's lighter. It's a lot faster than the 3000GT SL stock, and turbo upgrades for the WRX are cheap and abundant.

I'm with everyone else, the SL is sexier, but the wrx definantly does outperform it.

From the old far corner.
The VR4 and SL are far superior to the WRX (regardless of model) when it comes to creature comforts. The 3000 is loaded on the inside where the Subaru is not. They left a lot of things out in order to save weight to get that fantastic performance. I'd rather sacrafice a tenth here and there to ride in comfort and style. Racing is probably a whopping .1% of the driving time, the rest is getting from point A to point B or just cruising around.

As far as comfort features go, the STi comes loaded with a 1000 watt 6-speaker premium sound system. I don't think the SL has that.

I think that is the newer models like 04 and 05. I believe the 02 and 03s didn't even have a cd player stock.

The WRX isn't that uncomfortable, and it comes with a CD player stock. It's the STi that didn't have one in '04, but now a six-disc changer is standard for '05.

Oh yeah, and the 3000GT SL is about 200 pounds heavier than the WRX, and the VR-4 is about 500 pounds heavier than the STi. But again, the VR-4 gives up some sportiness and agility in the name of lots of features and a more comfortable ride. So it's up to you on what kind of car you want.

The wrx is in perfect condition with 21000 miles on it and it is completely stock. It does have a 6-disc cd player with premium sound speakers. so now what?

see if you can find a VR4 with comparable miles for a comparable price. If you can, i'd go with the VR4, but if not, go WRX.

though i love the 3kgt more than any car, i am in love with performance and turbo charged power. so i'd go with the wrx also. if you arent so serious about racing then get the 3kgt, if you have lots of money, you can turn that sl into a monster
