I have a 94 Silverado with 323,000 hard earned miles, and tranny and engine are tired (5.7 ; 4L60E ) (sigh) :( .......
I found a 95 engine/tranny coupled together at a wrecking yard (still in truck - low miles and clean) , and was told by employees at the yard that the engine would swap, tranny would not (another 4L60E).Transmission looks same as the 94 (with less grease and dirt) no noticable differences....have been looking online for hours, can't find any info on the differences.....called a tranny shop and asked, got several jumbled answers, nothing definite...just a "you bring it in to us, and we'll fix it" ........for the right $$$$$$
Can anyone tell me if the tranny is the same, or if it will work in my 94?
Will I have to change switches or electronics? Any help will be greatly appreciated...thanks, Fred

If the engine will, why wouldn't the trans???
Make sure that it doesn't have extra plugs and connections and hoses that yours doesn't. I have never messed with a 4l60e, just its predicessor (sp) the 700r4. You can make anything work though. I have an 88 that originally came with the 700r4, then it went out and i put in a 1977 350 turbo, then it went out and i put in a 1985 700r4. You can make it work.

the 94 is different then the 95. i also have a 94 Z-71...and when the tranny went i looked for a replacement....93 only works in 93, 94 only works in 94...but 95 and up will interchange with each other. reason is they had trouble when they were designing the tranny so they made changes every year, and finally got the design they wanted in 95. your wiring harness will be different, as well as possibly your computer.

thanks, guys, I appreciate your input, but I guess I didn't word my questions right.....I have talked to several tranny shop people, and seem to get different answers from each and every one......I know that the 95 tranny has the neutral safety switch built onto the left side, bolted on behind (underneath) the detent (shift) shaft. The 95 has cable shift, as my 94 has lever shift, and the detent shaft is longer on the 95, but can be swapped out.....also the wiring harness can be possibly swapped out also, as well as the shift solenoids....one shop told me that the valve body is different, another says that a simple wiring/solenoid swap would work...... I bought the 95 tranny, and have it here (cannot return now) (no refunds) so I guess I'm stuck with it until I find someone who knows the real scoop....thanks, Fred
